Anyone know what Wickersham is running in GTL?

Looked like the same MX5 he is running in T4. It reportedly spat its engine all over the track today during the T4 race.

Was a fun weekend, awesome weather all weekend.

I missed Fri qual due to work, then on the out lap for Sat qaul my throttle went dead. Chased it to a bad wire, started at the back for the race. It was very sporting of Brian Linn to show up late to grid so he could start next to me. Unfortunately the Hussey CRX seems to still be having some issues, and Brian was off the pace. We had some new/returning faces with Jeff, Ben and David. I got the Sat win, while Brian and Ben had a good battle for second, with Ben taking it.

On Sun Brian had problems and pulled in early. Jeff picked up 2nd in the Honda Fit, with David in 3rd in the Fiat.

Very cool to see the factory Honda HPD Fit out there. Jeff said Honda is looking to build a kit for competitors looking to move on from B-Spec. Can't wait to see what they can do with it.

If Wickersham ran his T4 car in GTL and they didn't DQ him Saturday did they do ANYTHING in tech. Lets see, 18" wheels, no fuel cell, engine isn't classed in GTL and no SIR.

If I was Craig Carter I would be upset, because he got a Majors win stolen from him.

Tech is also allowing him to collect contingency with an illegal car.

What the heck happened??

I raced the whole season last year and only ever had weight checked. I had track checked at one race. I had weight and a fuel sample at the runoffs. Not one time last year were SIR's tested.

For each impounded car, the weight and at least 2 other items appropriate for the class will be inspected, as agreed upon by the Series Chief Steward or Chief Steward and the Series Chief Tech inspector or Chief Technical Inspector. The Series Chief Steward or Chief Steward may also order that a wheel or intake choke(s) or restrictors be removed during impound for inspection. These inspections are not subject to the fees outlined in 5.12.23.C.5. Additional inspections may be conducted through the protest procedures outlined in 8.3.3.

Pretty sure a T4 MX5 would be on a 17" wheel, not that it makes a difference. Fuel cell is not required if the OE tank is in located properly.

Is there an allowance for IT cars to enter GTL? If so that would be an easy way for a T4/ITS car to double dip.

No idea what tech looked in for GTL. For H Prod on Sat they weighed, and asked us to open our hoods.

That would be on a case by case basis and listed on the spec line - it is not.

Nope.

...illegal car, it looks like?

I don't want to be constantly thumping on the majors, but how does a GTL car without an SIR make it through post race tech?

Surely someone knows the driver. Just ask what size SIR he ran.

Let's find that out first...

There wasn't an SIR on the car that won on Sunday...set a new Track Record on Sunday as well for GTL.

That car was finally protested and Dq'ed.

Sunday was the RX8, the Sat results still show him in 1st with the MX5.

I know that Joe, but it should have never been on the track as a known illegal car...that is just bad sportsmanship.

11. Safety Level 1 and 2
a. The use of a fuel cell is required unless the stock fuel tank
is located between the axle centerlines and within the main
chassis structure (e.g. frame rails).
When the stock fuel tank
is retained, it must be installed in its stock location, additional
retention straps and other protection can be mandated on a
car-by-car basis. Fuel cell mounting, location and fuel cell or
stock fuel tank filler cap and vents, must meet the specifications
of the GCR section 9.3 Fuel Cell Specifications.

Would you folks like to borrow the Spec Miata CCC.

Dave you should work for Mazda Marketing.

The car was not legal period. no options for 17" wheels period

For GT2-GTL cars...

F.3.
Safety Equipment required on all cars.

b.
Fuel Cells
A safety fuel cell complying with GCR Section 9.3 Fuel Cell Specifica-
tions, shall be installed. All fuel cell vents shall incorporate check valves
to prevent fuel spillage. Dry break refueling couplings and discriminator
valves may be installed, provided they do not extend beyond the
body work.
The use of a fuel cell is required unless the stock fuel tank is
located between the axle centerlines and within the main chassis struc
-ture (e.g. frame rails). Spec line allowances will be added on a case by
case basis.

Look at the spec line for the Miata - there is no allowance for a stock fuel tank, therefore it is illegal.

Dave, I think those are the prod rules. I remember because I broke at an event (shocker) and needed a finish and someone lent me their Spec Miata (for the start, only). It wasn't legal to do so, but I got my finish. I didn't take a lap so as to not affect the results in any way.
