Willow Springs double Rational, Feb 25-26, 2012

The weight on the tire is a contributor to the pressure used. That is why my bias ply pressures are closer to what Ron is and was running. When I see 28 hot, I know I should to do something to get it a little lower.

My left front tire was running just slightly over 28 at Willow Springs and I ended up with two chunks of rubber out of it after the first race that was called blistering by the Goodyear tire shop. I still think it was a defect in the tire but the experts should know more than I do about it.

Neal,

I had similar clearance issues The radials require huge setup changes that might be more difficult for your limited prep car than they were for my full prep. However they will fit. On 6" wheels the Hoosier 215-15 radial mounts up a little narrower than the old 8 bias. On 7s I suspect they would probably be a little narrower as well.

I must of been the last person still using 15 x 8 Goodyear slicks. They are now no longer available (or so I have been told). With some modification (sway bar relocation, studs, spacers etc...) I can get 15 x 9, or Hoozier 15 x 8.5 to fit on the front. At least I got my moneys worth out of the last set...all the way down to the steel belts..

Gary and Jason are extremely fast! I have nothing for them, but was hoping to have a good dice with Jamie who was getting faster every session and out-qualified me on Sunday. I'd better get my act together or I'll be left behind....

Glad to hear it was not the engine - not sure where I got that in my head. Will 13" wheels not clear your brakes/suspension? Seems like you can still get an 8" bias in that diameter.

Jason,

I have heard of MGBs running 13's, (Dick Leuning has done it) but when I look under my car...it seems unlikely it work with my stock brakes, steering arms etc... I'll look into this as an option for the long run. It would be cool to try.....would lower the car an inch or more, but maybe a real mess with my limited prep lever shocks, rear leaf springs, etc......

If you want to test fit I have a corded 215/580R15 Hoosier Radial slick from Jamie's car I could send you?

The Honda likes 18-19F 20-22R aiming at 26-27 hot F&R. The rears don't seem to make the same consistent heat track to track.

Jason,

Thanks for the kind offer. I'll take a few quick measurments tonight and get back to you tomorrow Based on the data sheets, they should fit without any issues.... although the same data sheets say the hoozier 8.5 x 15 bias should fit as well (which they currently do not).

Took me a while, but finally processed my Willow Springs (Sunday only) race video.
mine too - nothing exciting. The red car is a Noble 400M, which according to Wikipedia "has been reported to do 0-60 mph (0–97 km/h) in as little as 3.2 seconds". As we end lap1- you can see him accelerate away pretty quickly. Not as fast through the corners as I would expect.

Opps- forgot the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rUBhr_gHMM&list=UUpy1VPQalG83rItLOOu0nrA&index=1&feature=plcp
I think I need to step up to an HD camera.

That is a pretty cool piece of equipment, there use to be a guy in San Diego that autocrossed one. I remember reading the build of the Turbo Hoses car when they were first converting to race trim. 8)

One thing I thought was interesting was the choice of door bars they built it with, awesome for a track-day double duty car, but I would guess they had to change them to get a log book.
