I know that it seems that the Danville area is far but it is the most reasonable alternative when considering restaurants and other services. South Boston may be slightly less expensive for rooms but there is less variety in restaurants. Yanceyville is closer but there is not much there.

they are all booked. any other suggestions?

The road that goes to VIR (Hwy 62) intersects the main drag of Danville (US360) just east of the airport. There are a few hotels on that side of town that are nice and it's fairly convenient to the track. Its a nice drive......scenic and twisty.

Be sure if you go to VIR that you go to Aunt Millie's for pizza. It's close to the track (GPS will get you there) and it's delicious!

I just got offered a good paying work gig (rare for me) in Atlanta the week prior to VIR Major. I'll be in the area, so what about racing??? Why not blow a good work week's worth of pay on a weekend of racing????

Does anyone want to rent me a GTLite car with delivery to the track and some trackside support? Talk to me SOON as work will want to make my travel plans.

thank you,
Peter

Where is everybody? It's only 2 1/2 weeks till VIR and only 8 prod cars registered. Is anybody else planning on going or know of anybody that is not registered yet?

Will Perry is fresh off setting a new HP record at Road Atlanta & NOLA so it will be interesting to see if he can get the record at VIR to make it three for three.

I'll be there Thursday for annuals and then I have to leave for a Pro race. I'll be back for Sunday races and impounds.

I predict that he (or someone else in the race) sets a new record, because the 20.4 should be easy to beat. If he betters the real record set by Dan Collishaw at 16.8 (pre 2014) he will get my attention. The track is marginally faster now than it was when Dan set it, but it won't be easy.

Will, I was surprised that they did that with the records last year also. The only reason I could think of was because of the new paving and slight widening of the track they had done (in some areas) after the 2013 season.
That being said, with the new pavement and wider track you would think the new records would be quicker. Mind you, a 2:16.8 is definitely VERY quick HP time around there! 88-o

All that aside, I will be surprised if someone isn't able to better that 2:18.8 this weekend.

Good Luck!

Jay - I checked with the lap record spread sheet and they didn't have your time recorded for some reason. I had in the back of my mind that someone had bettered the 20.4 time, but when I didn't see it I thought I was wrong.

I have spoken to Dan about that many times, and after finally running there I am truly amazed at that time, set with a 948 Sprite on Dan's first trip to the track, with (apologies to anyone who was there) no competition. He went off big time in qualifying trying to do what he apparently was eventually able to do. I know I couldn't come close to it, and from the few times that I have had no competition (again apologies) I find it extremely difficult to push yourself to the point where you might throw away an easy win, just to set a record.

Don't know if it's possible to break Dale's record --but I predict that Will and I will be in the 2:18's. Wish you could be here, Jay.
