Secret Car Club Lives

FWIW, I think the Enterprises ad is a good one.

Best of both worlds can be had by doing a complementary video / web page and linking from the ad via a QR code.

Whoever talks to Erik can pass on this suggestion and say hi for me....

Enterprises ad is very good, but Jason's youtube is fantastic. I love magazines, but they are disappearing faster than hot dogs on Coney Island. Digital media is where we need to be. Producing videos like that, especially with the backing of a popular athlete is amazing. There must be more famous SCCA racers that are willing to do similar commercials.

I don't think we are there yet with digital media. There still isn't a single format that works good on every device, and a large portion of people are still not accepting it. But give it five years.

The challenge with the videos is cost. Without Toyota that video would not have been possible - GoPro had a four person crew with about two dozen cameras on hand, and I don't know how many hours they spent in post production to get to the finished product. Certainly there are some good amateur video guys that may do it for next to nothing, or even free, but you need the distribution a big production company provides so it gets out to a lot of people who wouldn't normally see it. Its great if racers see it and like it, but the idea is to reach new people.

We did another video using a different production company, the final product was great, but it has not had the success of the previous video. This one day shoot cost more than many people make in a year, and via the various channels has only been viewed around 5,000 times. Toyota can shrug this off as a learning experience, but for a smaller company it could be a big blow.

Jason, THAT WAS COOL!!!

When I built my new car I was going to ody it as a MX3. I called Tim at Mazda and he made the comment that he would like to see me build something "modern". He recommended the MX-5 and I got busy with my tape measure. He also said there was a lot more help for a current body car than something out of production for 10 years. I also like the Enterprises ad.

And now you should re-body your car as a Mazda 2... Of course just be prepared to change it again come 2014 if the rumors of its demise are true. :(

I can't resist one more criticism of the ad-- to get the true feel of SRF competition, the copy should be rewritten to read, "As soon as that red car passes, I'm gonna whip out into the three other cars behind it that I can't see-- Yeehaw!"

Uhhh. Enterprises was sued because of BOD decisions. Not the other way around. They suffered from the sins of the fathers.

Regardless, since Eric has been in charge they have done quite well. All things considered.

Maybe not "there", but we are damn close.

Film, photography and digital production schools? They're everywhere and always looking for a project. I would imagine especially one that was cool.....race cars and famous people.
