qualifying for the 2013 runoffs

Kevin, the answer is yes.

The Honda sounds like a good idea. Likewise, Ron could qualify in HP and enter the same car as FP. Lot's of extra track time.

There's a lot of possibilities for multi entries if you want for 2013.

There maybe a lot of rented/borrowed cars at the Runoffs.

If you know any of the past Champions who are not currently running, let them know about this. I think it is one of the neatest parts of the 2013 plan.

Sounds great for a past champ until someone shows up without:
SCCA membership
SCCA National license (needs a waiver)
SCCA Medical on file
Something else I forgot.

Bottom line I'd guess folks will use it for more track time then someone will have to complain about jammed up qualifying sessions with too many cars to get a clear lap.

I know where you can borrow a Honda pretty cheap since I'm not going and the car is being rented this year to new drivers.

I seriously doubt that many of the past National Champions will be in the way.

Recently, former DP National Champion James Reeves drove a Yenko Stinger at a Vintage race at Road Atlanta and although he had not turned a wheel in a race car in 20 years, he turned heads! And he is thinking about returning to SCCA club racing so this might be a motivation for him.

I imagine that all the National Champions will have their license status checked by the super young lady in the National office who handles the Runoffs entries. She has processed entries for the past number of years and does a great job.

OK, how many former Production Champions can you name who might come without going to the SCCA site and checking? And I guess AP, BP, CP were prod classes.

Jerry Hansen? I hope Courtney attends...

I did.

As I read it, Kevin can qualify in FP through Majors, points or Nationwide.

And he can use his past Champion provisional to enter any one class he wants. I'm basing that on the wording in the release.

"A special invitation will be extended to any past SCCA National Champion to return to the 50th running of the Runoffs, provided that they qualify for a National license. Any past Runoffs National Champion may enter one class at the 2013 Runoffs without meeting the participation or performance criteria."

So, he qualifies for FP and then he enters HP using his past Champion provisional.

Anyone have a Runoffs caliber F motor for rent? I already have all of the dry sump stuff ready to go.

It won't be competitive but ought to be fun.

Kind of what I'm thinking, just something to do for the fun of it. I'll already be there anyways, in a rig that will hold the second car too, and Honda will cover my entry fee. The chassis is already at weight (2345lbs in ITB vs 2350lbs in HP), so no lightening would need to be done. Really just need to build an engine, change the tune, and slap Hoosier radials on it. I even have a whole set of adjustable upper control arms for the car, from it's Honda-Challenge days. It does still have the passenger side window and its mechanism, so I'd have to gut that, but I've been wanting to do that anyways. Lastly, replace the glass headlights with a temporary panel. Would be fun, but being the heaviest classifiaction in all of HP, I'm just not sure it could make enough power. Would like to find out though, because that non-VTEC '92-95 Civic DX hatchback is a seriously fun, easy to work on, reliable, and (relatively) cheap racecar.

Ron, Toni Drum used to have some rocket FP motors and some of Billy Coates FP customers could fly. Maybe, Gary Johnson might still have a good power plant. Not sure what Harold is planning for 2013, but he renewed his permanent number here in SEDiv. I'm going to get in touch with Kenny Perguson and see if he wants to come play. I hope Randy decides to enter. Anyone know where Cat Kiser or Gene Clayton is? Never forget the Runoffs in 1980 where I ran Toni's car when she SCCA said she couldn't enter just because she was 7 months pregnant. Drove the announcer at Road Atlanta crazy with the lead pack of Canfield, Kiser, Clayton & Creighton. I squeaked out a 4th with Clayton first, Randy second and Kiser third. How about Wally Hicks? Won the race and had no idea he was in the lead. And Jim Miller who finally won after having trouble the year before on the last lap while leading.

Lots of neat memories.

I hear Mike Davies is going to run 7 different classes :O)

I was hoping this would be doable but a conversation with the mothership says only 1 entry per Champion, regardless of number of Championships.

I am assuming all of last years Champions will be able to use their provisionals plus if they are multiple Champions enter a second class.
