MPH Aug 19-21 Hastings hotels & Paddock spots

As of this morning we are up to 64 entries. FP up to 4, HP at 2, and EP at 7 which is about half the cars is group 2 so it should be a great race.

Drivers can help during their off session in impound, grid and timing and scoring with out having to cross the track.

As of this morning up to 68 entires. EP is looking like it is going to be the class race to watch with 8 entries. Just glad impound is right by the track... :p Group 1 lost an STU (Tim switched to driving a Miata in ITA) but GT-Lite now has 2 cars for Saturday. Not sure if it is the same del Sol from Lincoln, NE that was entered in STU or not because Tim is not driving it. James Wood is the driver. The mix changes for Group 3 on Sunday. Class Totals: American Sedan: 2, SSC: 1, Spec Miata: 1 Looks likes James Wood is now running in SSC but not in GT-Lite. Group 4 (Big Wings and Things) now has no entries. Sunday has 67 entries.

Saturday 68 entries

FYI, I have been in contact with both Buzz Fisher (CS) and Dan Miklovic (Chair SOM) about the schedule to see if they are open to changing those marathon qually sessions into two separate sessions each day if we only have 5 groups. Stay tuned.

I hope we can consolidate to 5 groups..
Lincoln Ne is the only town in the world with 2 caged Del Sols... Tim's is in my back yard engine-less & Jim's Has an engine just like Tim's... Both acura b18 LS motors...

BTW!!! We are doing the Friday night meal! I converted my 14ft trailer in to a pick-nick table.. NE corner of the Paddock! Modern Monks Brew, Good food and Karaoke!!! in that order...

I need the finishes more than I need to race - I'll likely just be parading around at the back of the EP field, unfortunately. Especially if I can't get in the test group tomorrow.

As of 10 AM CDT we are up to 74 entries and I know there are a couple that plan on signing up at the track. Group 4 how has 3 entries.

Weekend weather looks like possible rain on Saturday (real details on timing yet) but Sunday is looking clear.

Good luck this weekend everyone. I am settling into my dorm room in Columbia, MO. I would much rather be enjoying my weekend at the track than going through orientation activities here! Mom and dad get to have all of the fun this weekend! I hope to hear lots of good news and I'll be ready to see everybody at the Runoffs!

Andrea Albin
Over The Limit Racing
HP #3
ITB #4

Fun track. Lots of turning. Very busy. Couple medium speed sweepers (90mph). Some slower transition stuff and one goofy 180 degree final corner. Nice paddock. Nice facility.

Qualifying was our first time on the track.

FP
Prill, Miata, 1:37.096
Wagner, Miata, 1:40.141
Leiferman, Beemer, 1:47.262
Wessel, Datsun, no time - going to start at the back and shoot for half distance

HP
Albin, VW, 1:44.854
Asay, Sprite, 1:50.236

EP (not in small bore group)
Prather, MX5, 1:36.877
M Brakke, Miata, 1:37.836
Charlie Clark, RX7, 1:38.551
Lamkin, Miata, 1:38.569
Whitney, 914-6, 1:42.416
Davis, Acura, 1:44.968
Adams, Caterham, 1:58.108 (packing up and going home)

Split start with SRFs with FP, HP, GTL going first. I get away clean into Turn one and build up a nice gap in first 3 laps and then the car gets jammed into 4th gear. Around the same time Leiferman is pulled off at the sweeper unfortunately with no oil pressure.

So I figure I'll just cruise around until Randy W passes me and then probably park it (I'm not going to park it while in the lead!). And then, for the next 17 laps, nobody comes... I just putt around, at times feeling like I could accelerate faster on foot and make it to the checker before anybody catches me. Frustrating and rewarding all at once!

FP
Prill, 1:38.331 (NLR)
Wagner, 1:41.473
Wessel, 1:50.477 (got his finish after starting at the back)
Leiferman, 1:50.833

HP
Albin, 1:42.837 (NLR)
Asay, 1:49.859

Ron's motor is done, so he's out for Sunday and Wessel went home achieving what he came to do. Frank Fisher arrived this evening and is running in FP Sunday.

EP ran with the big boys.
M Brakke started from the back looking for a finish. Lamkin and Charlie both got the jump on Jesse at the start and then Jesse spun toward the end of lap one. Lamkin and Charlie had a good battle before Lamkin finally got ahead for good. Whitney had a monster oil leak on headers and was cruising down the back straight with 30' of flames behind him before he pulled off. Luckily nobody hurt that I heard but the car looked a little crispy. Jesse was catching Lamkin at the end but Bill was able to hold on for about a 5 second win with Charlie third. Don't have results but know Jesse ran a record 36.1.

Nice party this evening although I was too busy to stay long. Car's back together for tomorrow. I know how to correct the trans issue but there's not much I can do until I get a supplier to finally send the right parts. They're batting 0 for 2 right now but know they'll make it right, just doesn't help this weekend for my final pre-runoffs testing.

Great write up Eric.

Yeah my weekend is done. I think I ended up spinning a rod or crank bearing as best I can tell. I will need to take it apart to see how it is looking.

I swear Chris Albin was going to loop his VW during the parade lap. He is aggressive at getting heat in the tires....LOL

Sunday's results: http://www.mylaps.com/results/showevent.jsp?id=704085

Got the trans re-set and the car was good in qualifying. Wagner put on some fresh tires and had a nice qualifying effort as well. I was able to put a bit of a gap on him in the first five or six laps before the tires started to give up. I had abused them on Saturday trying to roll speed through corners when the car was stuck in gear and found the toe was off after Sunday qualifying which cooked them a bit as well. By the end of the race, Randy was all over me but I was able to hold him off, sliding all over the place, by about a quarter second. I was able to lower the record from Saturday by a second down to a 1:37.5.

Chris Albin cruised to the HP win.

In EP, Jesse was on the pole over Lamkin, Clark and M Brakke. Charlie got the jump but Jesse got by in Turn 4. After a couple of laps, his trans stuck in gear and he had to motor around to half distance. From there, Lamkin ran away to his second-straight win.

Congrats to Chris and Bill for their wins this weekend. Randy would have certainly taken the FP win if the race was a lap longer. Congrats to him on a good run as well.

I think for a race that was off/on/off/hold on/on again it turned out a be a good weekend for almost everyone. I did not see or hear of very many big issues with the event over the weekend. Thanks for everyone that helped support this event and a big thanks to all the workers. They were always the first ones up and working and always the last ones off the track at the end of the day.

Last night, I started looking at the data in greater detail and I did not find very much info that would have lead to the bearing failure. I did see a 10 lb reduction in oil pressure during the high speed left hand turns that may have been the cause. It also could have been a hold over from when I lost the cap off the rear u-joint at MAM during testing. I did not have an over rev at MPH or at MAM. It is time to start planning on the changes and updates I need to make. The lists get longer....

BTW....I have to say thank you and give a recommendation to Kevin Dennis for building a new two piece drive shaft for this event that eliminated all my drive line vibration issues. I should have done this the first time...LOL

I had a great time and lucked into two wins. At least my lap times the second day were respectable - and I think Jesse and I would have had a good dogfight for a lap or two had he not broken.

I'm still fighting my odd problem where the car goes lean after about the 10th lap or so... still no clue why and trolling around 5 laps at the end at 16:1 AFR is no fun.

Eric and Jesse were spectacularly fast in qualifying on Sunday.

I will go back for another national - hopefully next year! The track is really fun once you figure out the rhythm which those guys did quickly and I finally did on Sunday morning. I never did figure out turn 3.

Good group of people and memorable weekend for me.
