Mid Ohio Major

Any word about Kent?

-M

Melinda said she got an email from Eric Prill today saying that MidO allowed them to stay overnight at the track and that he (Kent) felt much better today.

He was one of a few drivers that showed signs of overheating post race. So a word to all of you guys/gals.....keep hydrated before sessions and make sure your crew has a cooler with water and wash cloths for after sessions. And if you feel woozy, naucious, etc. ask for help.

I know Melinda will make sure that pits, impound and winners circle will have plenty of fluids for drivers post session (for th NorCon Majors). And, more importantly, radios to be able to ask for medical help if needed. It was a sad commentary that pit lane had no radio to call medical for assistance.

the weekend was good and bad.

the Car ran like crap both Friday and Saturday so I never really got to learn the track. Made a change on Saturday night that fixed the problem and the car was back to full song. Felt good to get the 1:45.xx in the race and be competitive until both my brain and a flat tire took me out.

Good racing with Erick V.

not sure when the next outing is...but probably a ways out.

The majors deal continues to confuse me. A sprint race at 18 laps and a feature race at 19 laps?????????? 3 days to have the same amount of track time as we had at double nationals?

I think the next event will be a divisional event...

As always it was great to see everyone and meet a few new people

OK Daryle I feel the need to defend this one.

I was the safety steward in the medical center for this race. There were 2 emt's in there with me. When the race was over I stepped out front into the pits when Kent was making his turn in. He stalled it and I pushed him up to his parking spot. Within 1 minute we saw Kent was having a problem and I tried to talk to him to see what was needed and as I was trying to get his helmet off I called for medical, maybe a minute and a half. I made a mistake and called them to impound not winners circle. Sorry but I was trying to do 2 things at once and with all the cars there you might see how I could have done that. ( but trust me it's bothering me that I did that). I and some others were taking care of Kent and when I didn't see the emts coming I called again and they came. All this only took them maybe 3 or 4 minutes to get there. The girls there all had plenty of water, ice, and wet towels on hand. Some one even got use an umbrella to shade him.
If you were watching when the ambulance showed up they were not the first emts there.
I want to thank everyone else there that helped out. Other than my little mistake eveyone was right on top of things.
Sorry for my rant.
Kent was tired but doing fine about 5:00 when I left. They were going to stay the night and leave in the morning.

Anyway great seeing a lot of you again. Watched some great racing.

Easy, big fella.....I wasn't calling anyone out. It was a cautionary tale about how things can go south quickly if all the players aren't working together. MidO is lucky that medical is close to winners circle. Most tracks it's not. WC wasn't given a radio, pits didn't have a radio.....if your guys aren't there straight away, it could have been uglier. A lot of us drivers aren't in tip top shape.

As the summer moves on and the temps gets hotter, it'll only get worse for the potential for overheating.....and we need to be prepared. I want my driver colleagues to know that Melinda and I will do all we can to support them at the vents we'll be at for the rest of the summer. That's all I was saying.

Definitely a nice video. The audio overlay with the announcers was also cool. Where'd the audio stream come from? was this piped in via FM radio into the recording device during the race, or added post-race?

Joe's been doing that for a while now. Back at his paddock, he'll put a recorder in his truck with the stereo on and tuned to the track's local FM feed of the track announcers. He then overlays that recorded audio with the video from his in-car, and creates a pretty sweet video to post. Here's another good example from our last ARRC in 2011, a great race with Brian Price, and classic Greg Creamer announcing. All three of us went into the 1:41's at Road Atlanta in ITA cars:

Charlie was definitely calling for Medical while also trying to attend to Kent. When they weren't arriving, I ran up to the building at the end of pit out. I told the medic inside that we needed assistance in pit lane stat and he responded. He alluded to there being some confusion on where exactly they were being asked to go. He got there just before the ambulance arrived.

Lots of racers and workers jumped in to assist. That was good to see.

From the office today, I saw the Prather Racing rig drive by on Topeka Blvd, so they are home.

Great racing last weekend guys! Glad to be back racing at the national/majors level after the rollover incident in 2012 took me out of competition for the remainder of '12 and most of '13. Congrats to Matt and Greg for hard earned wins and hopefully see you guys later this season!

Thanks to everyone that helped me at Mid Ohio. Charlie Campbell was great and was all over me from pushing my car into victory circle after I stalled it, to getting people on the scene, to making arrangements for us to stay over at the track and drive home on Monday. Thanks to my cuz Sam Hakias for pulling me out of the car and helping pack up my car and trailer, and everyone pouring water and ice on me. I was badly overheated and it really took all of my energy. I have never had heat stroke before and hope to not ever have it again. The care center and the people working in there, Dave and Lindsey, were awesome. They had me cooled down and up and going before impound was sent home. I am fine.
Sorry for taking away from the activities of winner circle. Kyle Disque ran a great weekend pace and deserved to be the attention of the group, not me.
I appreciate everyone that called me or Emailed and were concerned for me. It was an awesome weekend of great racing and beautiful weather at Mid Ohio.
Oh yes, I will be doing stuff to prevent this happening again.
Thanks to Jamie Houseman for the greatest trophies and weekend support of GTL. No one has stepped up like that ever to help keep a class exciting. Not that Kyle and Peter aren't hard at it!
Thanks to everyone, Kent Prather

That does make a nice video.

I enjoyed the weekend getting to spend time with all our racing buddies. Fun track...
