Talk with Mississippi or Louisiana they are little closer, they should have some extra in a week or so.

Soon it will not mater if MAM goes under or not. You will not be able to get to the track with out a major detour if you are lucky. I-29 is closed north of Omaha. The I-680 detour I had to take last weekend is now closed. They expect I-29 to be closed south of Nebraska City by Thursday. Hwy 2 in Nebraska City is expected to be closed by Thursday also. Hwy 34 south of the track is expected to close soon also.

It is really raining up here in South Dakota and Minnesota. We have already gotten 3 inches of rain today and more is on the way. They have flash flood warning out all over the area. This water is not controlled by a major dam between here and Omaha.

The core also planned on increasing the flow out of the dam in Yankton, SD to the planned max of 150,000 cfps. I have not heard if that was completed or not. They may have held off due to the heavy rain.

Depends on where you measure the water.

There is a minor leak this morning at the levee by Dakota Dunes, SD which is right north of Sioux City, IA. Work is being done to repair the leak.

The river at Plattsmouth, NE which is right across from MAM is currently at 34.12 ft and the levees are built to 36 ft. The river has been rising the last couple days. It is currently higher the the projections. SE SD and SW MN had 2 to 4 inches of rain on Monday and Tuesday. All of this area flows into the Missouri after the Gavins Point Dam which is the last dam before Omaha. They are forecasting more rain for this weekend. Gavins Point Dam is flowing at their maximum planned release at 150,000 cfps. They are forecasting more rain for this weekend and the first part of next week.

North end of Omaha is already underwater. I-29 is shut down for most of the length of IA along with parts of I-680. They are advertising almost a 400 mile detour to get around the flooding. There is shorter routes but most of it is 2 lane. Depending on where you want to go you may not be able to get there would out a boat or water wings.

Edit: Just as a point of reference: There is 7.48 gallons in one cubic foot of water. So 150,000 cfps is 1,125,000 gallons per second. This would about fill 2 Olympic size pools in one second. In a 24 hour period that is about 97.2 billion gallons of water going through the dam. NYC uses about 1 billion gallons of "drinking" water a day.

This is from the photo album above. This looks like the train track south of MAM. They were doing this work when I was down there last weekend for the BMW school.

Here is the John Deere dealership that is by MAM.

The river at Plattsmouth, NE is currently up to 34.46 ft. Major flood stage is at 35 ft.

They are forecasting more rain for SD, NE, and MN over the next couple days with rain fall totaling 3 to 5 inches.

Due to the heavy rains last night in the Omaha area and north, the river has jumped up to 35.71 ft. The levee's were built to 36 ft based on a meeting with the core a couple weeks ago.

Looks like the Omaha area got 1 3/4" to 2".

Update 9:30 am CDT:

The river is up to 35.9 ft which is the highest on record.

Historical Crests
(1) 35.65 ft on 07/25/1993
(2) 34.66 ft on 06/14/1984
(3) 33.31 ft on 06/23/2010
(4) 32.60 ft on 04/18/1952
(5) 31.90 ft on 03/21/1978

The river levels jumped to 36.04ft but is back down to 35.84ft and is dropping slowly. I have been trying to find out if there was any major flooding in the area but no update from local people. They may be dealing with other things right now.

Just has a side note: Nebraska Region has tentatively reserved these same dates at Motorsports Park in Hastings, NE in case MAM is goes under.

Additional update: They are increasing the flow from Gavens Point Dam in Yankton, SD (Last dam before Omaha) to 160,000 cfs on Thursday. They are expecting the river to rise 8.4 to 12 inches at Sioux City, Iowa, and 3.6 inches to 4.8 inches from Omaha to Rulo, Neb.

The Oahe dam in Pierre, SD increased their flows to 160,000 cfs late last week.

With this new information and the fact the river is already around 36 feet, MAM may have water problems.

thanks...

keep us updated... Hopefully we'll get to head north and race in august! I'm glad the other track/region is being proactive...

The report is the levees are holding but everything is very wet in the area due to the heavy rains. NR SCCA has canceled the rally cross they had scheduled at MAM this weekend due to the ground being so wet.

Here are some pictures that Jerry Doctor took of MAM earlier Wednesday when they were checking out the site for the Rally Cross.

That looks like the standard MAM paddock, minus the canopy that's coming down. I figured that place would be under water by now.

Agreed.

Drier than our April event, in fact.

I figured once the river got to 36 feet the levees would be topped and start eroding away and the track would be a gone. This information is based on the meeting the core held in Pacific Junction, IA on June 7th.

The river is currently back up over 36 ft at 36.08 ft this morning. They are increasing the flow from Gavins Point Dam today to 160,000 cfs. It takes about 2 days for the water to get to the Omaha area based on the cores flow times.

MAM is going to stay open as long as they can. MAM only makes money when they are open and they are not going to close unless the track is totally under water. The BMWCCA was in a hard spot for their event the June 11th weekend because if they canceled the event they would still have to pay MAM. We got the feeling that MAM was not going to cancel the event because of a flood alert or even a warning, only if you needed a boat to make a lap and then they may open for boat races which is what they originally wanted to do on the pond by the front gate.

MAM has been ordered to evacuate by 4:00pm tomorrow. NRSCCA is working to get help the track clear out stuff and get things protected.

MAM posted this on their Facebook feed:

It is with great sorrow that I am sickened to announce that Mills Co has asked MAM to evacuate premises by 4pm! All events on hold till further notice! Volunteers needed!!
