Lightning Challenge at NJMP

Tom

So Terry, does the name Lightning Challenge refer to surviving the 70 mph winds, hail, monsoon and lightning Friday night or does that refer to racing? Our motorhome did not quite blow over but it was close.

I can assure you that the double meaning of 'lightning' was strictly unintentional. :)

The JRB would like to thank everybody who braved the storms and the incredible heat to participate in this year's Lightning Challenge. The patience and support of the competitors was overwhelming as we worked to get the race started without any power at the track. Electricity is overrated.

Listening to the radio on my way to the track on Saturday morning, I realized that whatever damage we had sustained was significantly less than to our south where many of our MARRS participants live. We hope that everyone in the path of the storm is safe and came through with a minimum amount of damage.

Thanks for coming

See ya at the races

Better conditions than on Saturday, a sport racer blew it big time in turn 1 and went all the way around the track, oiling everything including the pit lane. I don't know what they were using for oil dry but is was some nasty dusty stuff, it was like driving through a sandstorm.
They make you pay for cleaning up your oil .. :)
As part of our agreement with NJMP, they bill for oil dry used in clean-ups. Ordinarily we consider this as a cost of doing business and absorb it in our race budget. On Saturday, the FS car made an entire lap of the track after his engine grenaded. I expect that the region will ask him to participate for avoidable damage he caused.

British cars have not need to worry - we already have you built into our budget.

I think that it was either 2003 or 2004 (maybe 2005) that Frank Sanchez acquired the two ex Indy Lights cars with the "Tel Mex" livery. There was no class in SCCA for him to run those cars in (they were over prepared for FA), so he petitioned the club to create a regional class for them. "FS" was born. The "S" is for Sanchez.

I know that Frank sold those cars a year or two later, but I do not know where they ended up.

Formula S (FS) is a GCR regional only class. This class is to formula cars what A Sports Racing is to sports racers - they establish safety specifications without specific construction or component compliance rules. The class is an optional class which WDCR added when Frank raced his Indy Lights car.

Mr. Parker, you may remain in your seat and put your hand down. I KNOW what your response is going to be and we will be having none of that s*#t in this family-friendly forum.

(said with tongue firmly implanted in cheek. Voice of Sister Mary Elephant comes to mind. Lessee how many of you fine folks remember that one...)

I remember Sister Mary Elephant all too well.

I was six months behind in penmanship from getting whacked with the ruler. I had to learn how to write left handed at one point, until my broken hand healed.

At that time Frank was racing a Weaver chassis GT1 with Camaro body work, if I remember correctly. That car was sold to Kent Goebel whom is still racing it. At the time that Frank had it, the car was liveried in the "Banana Boat" (sun screen products) motif. The next car was another Weaver chassis GT1 with Corvette body work with the "Wet Ones" (baby wipes) motif.

Ow, my hand....

class.... Class.... CLASSSS.......

Reminds me of a drivers meeting or two, back in the old SRX7 days.

and as a permanent southpaw when it comes to writing, I know all about it.

Mr. Nagy apparently paid attention to his Cheech and Chong albums. Mr. Parker apparently did not, and believed that I was referening an actual person. (although the whacking on the knuckles by women in black did actually take place, so I'm not belittling that fact - my sister ended up with broken knuckles, too. Sorry.)

Eh, now I'm doubting myself. Was it Cheech and Chong or was it Carlin?

Regardless, Mr. Nagy may go to recess today. Mr. Parker will have to sit in detention.

Cheech and Chong.
The whacking on the knuckles was George Carlin.
I luckily never was required to endure the "penquins" of religious schools. Although Mr. Baracka advised that it was quite a struggle for him.
However, I can tell you all about growing up in a Navy Officers house.

Your threat of detention does not scare me.
