KVRG R/N/IT Tour - July 16 -17 - HPT

Really, uncomfortably hot all weekend. Highs over 100 each day with heat index 110-115. Yuk. Ran the 2.2-mile course, which uses the Carousel loop but goes straight at Five and re-enters at 7a before the back straight bus-stop. I actually enjoyed the layout quite a bit. 7a is a hoot and makes the 8/9 bus stop just a breathe.

Don't have a Group 3/EP results sheet, but it was:
1 Prather, 1:31.3(?), Record
2 Haupt
3 Charlie Clark
4 Matt Rivard

Jesse was on pole with a 30.0. Only drama for him was Scott Tucker coming through in his Ferrari F430 and JP got pushed wide and bent a couple wheels on the T4 curb.

Group 5 FP/HP/GTL/SRF
I inexplicably allowed Grayson Strathman to outqualify me in his SRF (good for him, bad on me!) so we were group 2 of the split start. I pushed my tires too long and they were spent when we went out for qualifying. Turned a 33.6. Was at 32.3 in Saturday's practice.

Despite being 15 degrees warmer (85 in qual vs. 100 for the race), the better used tires were far grippier and I cut a 31.995 on the second lap. After that they fell off a bit and after I spun going through some of the SRF traffic in 10, I dialed it back quite a bit. Never saw anyone else.

I hear the GTL race was a good one, with Stinehelfer, Zekert and Lopshire all leading. Don't know anything about the HP race other than what's on the results

SRFs were 1-4 oa and then 6th, 9th.

FP - Prill, 1:31.995, Record

GTL
Stinehelfer, 1:36.66
Zekert, 1:37.458
Lopshire, 1:38.048

HP
Albin, 1:39.060, Record
Schulz, 1:39.107
Blust, 1:40.638
Wood, DNS

Big kudos and thanks to all the corner, pit and grid workers. It was a really tough weekend weather wise.

PS - As for a cool suit in an open car? Call me what you want, but you have to call me comfortable.

Eric,

Rumor is that you were seen wearing your cool shirt and dragging a cooler on wheels around all weekend!!!! LOL

I was looking for a Radio Flyer that would hold the cooler and a battery to power it. If someone had one, I would have done just that!

I would like to thank the workers and the KVRG team. Everything was on time, announcements were clearly heard and the workers in the false grid gave out good info on race length / 1/2 way requirements etc. Also thanks for the water and cold towels in tech
Impressive!

At the start Jim Steinhelfer and Roy Lopshire were side by side, with me behind them, right next to HP leader Chris Albin. Roy Lopshire took the lead, but traded it with Jim soon after. As they got side by side at T14, on about lap 3(??), I decided to pass inside and lead. It was short lived. We all traded the lead for the entire race. Last lap Jim and I moved away from Roy as he was loosing grip. Jim got by me at the last corner and I couldn't catch him.

If anything it was a good show for the KVRG corner workers standing at 100+ degree corner stations. Thanks workers. Congrats to Jim. His car (and Roys) are strong.

Eric Prill's car looked very fast. Peter

Thanks to all the folks that came by for cake with thekid. he still hasn't quit about his JPM shirt or Peter eating 2 pieces of cake.
