Kansas Speedway

Just received my MiDiv reserved number request forms and the Mid-Am schedule was also included.
An interesting note next to the Kansas Speedway Majors date was that all IT classes are included. :applause:
Either Kansas Speedway is expensive to rent or they realize that Majors don't attract enough drivers in the Mid States Conference.

As a member on the KVRG board I can answer your question. The answer is two fold.
A: KVRG regrets ever leaving out our regional racers on our weekends. If we could go back we would but we can't. So, we've swung a deal to have an IT group as part of our majors weekend.

B: Yes, we've been able to nearly break even but to keep our program viable in the future we need more cars. Kansas Speedway isn't really more expensive than HPT but history has shown us that we just need more cars.

Really looking forward to the weekend. Track will be very fast, ran there in the vintage Elva this year and even with a chicane it was faster than Elkhart Lake. I'll be in favor of no chicane to simulate Daytona more. The data from a certain Conti team says they're very close in speed.

What is the source for entrants for Majors races? They are pilfered away from the potential entrant lists of non-Majors races.

In MIDIV and RMDIV there are too few drivers to support both Majors and non- Majors races, hence the cancellations in 2014 of several race weekends.

By inviting IT drivers to support a Majors race , the Majors proponents are duping their VICTIMS into helping to pay for their own demise - the cancellation of past and future races within a reasonable tow.

The MIDIV (about 250 drivers) and the RMDIV (only about 200 drivers) will have the best chance for a racing future by throwing the Majors program out of THEIR Divisions and going back to a Regional/National and/or Rational system which works there. The Majors "divide and conquer" effect is poison to these Divisions.

Tom W.,
RMDiv and MidDiv used to put on events that had both regionals and. Antagonist on the same weekend, right? So why not do the same thing now?

Up here in NorCon, CenDiv and GLDiv have enough members of the driver corps that we can have separate events. But if your area is short on drivers, then that's one way to deal with it. You wanna have separate regional events....then sign up for them. Regions can't afford to lose money for your convenience.

Back in the day . . .
RMDiv (basically Colorado and Continental Divide Regions) ran regional/nationals most of the season filling in with driver school/regionals and double regionals. Then came the double nationals - one per division then two then all nationals were doubles - no room for the regionals so the regional only classed (mostly IT) died off. Club Ford survived by running the nationals.
I lived through it as a flagger and driver since 1988 when RMDiv was formed.

Not to forget Utah, Rio Grande and Pan-Am Regions but in the whole scheme of things, they put on good events but not many and suffered from low attendance.

I am planning on the Kansas Major to simulate Daytona, but if they are going to run a different configuration (chicane) I may go elsewhere. Any idea if the chicane is just a thought or a done deal?

Sounds like there's no reason to run the chicane with similar speeds to Daytona. That would be my preference and will do my best to make sure it happens as a board member.

So what use to be a "National, with a Restricted Regional Run Group", is now a "Majors, with a Restricted Divisional Run Group"?

That's why I have to chuckle a little bit when I see people screaming that the sky is falling, and we need to go back to the way things use to be.

Isn't this the same freaking thing, but with a different name?

The speeds are similar to Daytona but the main difference is the loads. (By the way, this is just information, not a push for or against chicane). The radius of "NASCAR 3 & 4" is much tighter than the radius of Daytona "NASCAR 3 & 4" this causes some concern. With the run out of the infield down the back straight to those turns the really heavy duty stuff will be at 165-ish or more entering the turn. Similar phenomenon to running the banking at Homestead. On some cars it is a tire heat issue on others it is a mechanical limitation issue.

That being said, when we were there as Grand-Am there were minimal problems and the drivers all felt that the track was "better" than it looked on paper.

All except for that part where we have to drive 1000 miles to get to the next race..

Yep for about 200 bucks extra in most cases...:)

We will be able to stay in the paddock overnight. That was a critical issue for KVRG and they have negotiated the ability to do this.

Great.

Next, if you could do something about the weather. Looks like the average temp is 85-90. Around 70 degrees would be much better.

Thanks,
Jon

Not looking forward to racing in the Mid States Conference in 2015. A race in Kansas in late June, 4th of July at High Plains and Pueblo July 25-26. What's next, Phoenix first weekend of August or maybe a race on the sun?

I guess we got spoiled having both Colorado races in May last year in reasonable temperatures. (I know, complain to the regions)

That won't happen Jon. We don't have any tracks cleared in Phoenix. You'll have to go south of Tucson to Willcox or the middle of nowhere California desert at Chuckwalla

Yes, living in Phoenix I just LOVE that Portland and Kent, WA are in my conference. High Plains, Hallett, and COTA are all closer.
