June Sprints Event Thread

I understand that the survey responses for the runoffs last year suggested great dissatisfaction with the limited track time. This was their answer - the listened. Tough place to be, can't please everyone.

Where and the heck are all of the results from the Sprints?

Couldn't find the official race results anywhere.

You're not the only one looking, Jesse.

 Dissatisfaction with limited track time: Sign up and pay for EP and FP. Instead of 6 good qualifying sessions and two races you now get 4 qual sessions which at least half will be f'ed up by an EP car(s) that you can't pass because of the power differences, and two races. Better yet, it's really 2 qual sessions per class if you want to change your car or config between classes. Don't worry about rain or hot part of day, that doesn't impact qual times too much :? Sounds like less track time to me for double the $$

Yes, I know you only need one fast lap to qualify, but our cars/tires have a sweet spot that can disappear real fast in mixed traffic... I might get to save a $500 entry... :ask:

Shame on me for not catching the schedule sooner... I looked early on and noticed the races were friday and sunday which would have worked nice. I don't know if I overlooked qual schedule, if it changed, or I only looked at a race schedule in a mag or something...

At the 2010 Runoffs Superman (nothing but respect Steve) did the same in both H & F production. One out lap, one qualify lap & an in lap for two poles. :applause: :applause:

Anyone have any thoughts on the letter of apology to every June Sprints competitor from the Chicago Region regarding several issues of substance? For profit spec fuel; Race 3 incorrect starting grid; Red flag after green flag in race 8.

Never knew the Chicago Region to 'pologize for nuttin.

Maybe the poor numbers got their attention.

RJ,

Then you obviously have never met the current Region leadership, going back to my 3 years as RE, followed by Tom, Mike and now Ed.

The fuel prices took us by surprise as well, and it is being worked on at a level above the Region, since we didn't control the fuel.

The Sm debacle is another issue, and I frankly don't know how to prevent operating stewards from making bad calls. it would have been very easy to do an immediate black flag all under the pace car, pull them into the pit lane, and re do the grid for the SM's.

The Red flag was the correct call based on the rescue report of 100% track blockage in the kink. One problem was a steward trying to do a "phased" red flag (no such thing). My real issue is the actions taken by the OP after the race.

We had a decent turnout, over 400 cars even in a down economy and following a national at Mido. That doesn't mean for an instant that we are happy with the event this year at all. The region, myself included, is going to do everything we can to fix this years issues, and to improve things overall for the Sprints.

I didn't see much wrong with the Prod race, other than John's breaking early.

I do wish I had control of the weather.

It's strange that the paddock looked kinda empty in the grassy areas, and I think that is because more and more people are coming in group transporters, especially the open wheel guys. The fighting for pavement was pretty fierce, and frankly, being there since Tuesday striping then parking people was a lot of work.

I know this has been going on for a number of years, but why are the Sprints the only National that I know of that charges for Paddock space? Why was there no re-entry into the Paddock after 9AM with a Paddock pass? You could not get back in if one went out for food, parts, supplies etc. Oh, I know it was because there where 50,000 spectators. I was spectating back in the 60's, 70's you could'nt get to the fence at 5, and Firemans Hill was packed with spectators. Is it because it costs $30 a day to get in, or $5 for a beer? But wait the brats at the Gear Box are still the best.

Mike,

We park and charge because otherwise it would be a land rush, and we are required to give parking money to the track for the privilege of getting there early and striping/parking.

This year we made a lot more of it free area.

Despite some grumbling, most of the entrants like having a guaranteed, reserved parking spot.

As for the paddock entry? Took me by surprise, pissed me off to no end, and I complained to the Stewards, which got nowhere.

That same BS will not happen next year if I can help it.

Scott

I think the paddock entry through the Kohler Tunnel is for any spectator weekend to cut down on the traffic for race cars trying to get to grid. Having been inside 14, I guess it was nice that I didn't have to put my blinker on to merge in traffic.

You could go around to Turn 2 to enter, but then you're driving through the competitors paddock and creating more congestion there, and that's the busiest area. I understand the rationale, but I think for an SCCA event, you may as well just keep the Kohler tunnel open.

On a positive note, I got a check for 50 bones in the mail yesterday from Chicago region, courtesy of TRO Manufacturing for my stupendous 4th place finish at the Sprints. Thanks Scott and TRO for the support of the event (as well as the other contingency partners). It is appreciated and doesn't go un-noticed!
