I agree that this should be looked into as a substitute for the St. Louis dates.

Ever since the R/R in October (only the 2nd SCCA race weekend at the track), I have been saying that they need to add more races to the track in Hastings. It is a longer pull for me them MAM but it is a fun track with new challenges. I won my first F-Prod race there.... Ok Randy Wagner pulled in with a bad hub but I still won....LOL

The local racers and volunteers are a great supportive bunch.

They have a lot of RV spots with power. Great showers. The hotels in town also have good racer rates with breakfast that starts at 6 am even on the weekends. On site condos with garages for rent. Free WiFi that covers the paddock. A Bar/Club wiht Satellite TV onsite and the fire pit is really cool or is that hot....

MiDiv should add a double national, R/N, or Rational to Motorsports Park Hastings in NE. It was designed by the same company that did MAM. Just like MAM it is a safe, easy track to learn but hard to master.

Great group of people and a great track owner that is a real card and car guy.

So are you guys saying that we need more races in the division?

I'm not saying that Jared, just that Hastings might be able to pick up the slack that Gateway leaves behind. I think 8 national races is plenty for the division. If it was up to me, we'd do a double national at either MAM or Hallett with IT and draw from neighboring divisions. I know that Texas people would come to Hallett and central and gl folks will come to MAM. Just an idea!

Unfortunately, the quote below, from the story about why Greenwood went out of business sounds too much like what is going on nowadays at some race tracks.

Greenwood’s future?

“Well, it hasn’t folded completely,” Ackerman said, “but it has some problems.”

Although there will be no more sports car races this year, Ackerman said the track has been leased for a national motorcycle race in August and a national go kart race later in the fall.

Ackerman said he felt much of the blame for Greenwood’s collapse could be laid to local sports car groups and the condition of the track itself.

Highly critical of the local sports car groups, the Des Moines Valley and Iowa Valley Assns., Ackerman said they “are unable to comprehend the cost of putting on a race just for their benefit. Continued efforts to gain their understanding and co-operation have been to no avail,” he said. “What it boiled down to is that we were providing a place for their hobby.”

He said from an overall financial viewpoint, Greenwood “has been a complete fiasco.” He added that “we are probing every avenue available for satisfactory outlet - other than dealing with people who are sports car enthusiasts.”

Meanwhile, weeds are growing in the pit areas of what was designed to be one of the finest and most popular sports car racing tracks in America.

What a sad indictment of our sport. Are they saying the local SCCA people didn't understand what it cost to put on a race? Were they not willing to pay what the track wanted for rental? That seems more likely. I know there was a huge uproar when Lime Rock raised the rates, but you don't have to show up if it is too much for your budget.

As for providing a "place for their hobby" what did they think they were doing for amateur racers and track day renters?

i signed up for this board to try and learn some of the prod car tricks to apply to my IT car, but nonetheless....

it's fine if you want to host a race at MPH, but i will never support it until the amount of races in this division gets down to a reasonable level. i don't know the exact numbers, but MiDiv has one of the lowest number of licensed drivers, but somehow manage to have more race weekends than most.

the STL region was great in terms of workers, race day scheduling (when will K/MVRG learn that you don't HAVE to put IT last?), and their event management in general....but i'm glad to see GIR go away just to get some races off the schedule. same with MMP.

more classes, more race weekends, and fewer drivers. at what point do we become a really expensive HPDE club and not a racing one?

Greenwood was intended to be a "big" professional track like its brothers to the north, Elkhart Lake, Donnybrooke, and Meadowdale, not a club track for club events. Track days? in the 60s?

Nebraska Region (Midiv) is having a special club meeting Nov 16 to discuss club racing in the region. Information is a little vague right now but here is a statement posted on the NR forum.

Greetings all,

A couple of things have come up since we sent the postcard. Items that are VERY important.

The meeting was designed to find out what YOU, the Nebraska Region member, wanted to see from your racing program and to update you on where we stand in a number of areas regionally and divisionally.

I don't understand the issue that the postcard didn't address urgency. How many times in the past have you received anything calling for a special meeting to discuss club racing in Nebraska Region? Never?

Since we sent the postcard, a huge issue has developed with DMVR which has added urgency to this meeting.

We're not saying that you don't care if you can't show up to this meeting because you have to work, etc. We understand that some people aren't going to be able to drop everything and come to a meeting.

If you can be there, you should. Spread the word. The Board needs to know what direction you want to take your program into. The issue with DMVR makes it very time sensitive.

Hope to see you tomorrow night.

Lael, I won't be there - my understanding is that it was initially planned as a "see what the racers want" meeting for the NR drivers.

Check your PMs for a phone number or two....

That's fine for you, if you are running IT in the MidDiv you get a double every race weekend. If your are running Nationals and trying to get 4 finishes to qualify for the Runoffs it's a different story. 6 races do not cut it for those of us that have a life and things like family and jobs that conflict with some race weekends. A lot of us don't have the time and money for a 600 mile tow to out of division races. I'd like to see a couple of double Nationals thrown in,hopefully on holiday weekends.
