Yes, Gateway is closed. Not sure what the status of Memphis is but last time I heard it was not going to open. Leaves a lot of open dates in MidDiv. A road course at Kansas Speedway was supposed to be part of getting a Casino there but it obviously would not be ready for 2011. Hopefully they will throw in a couple of Doubles into the schedule.
 
St Louis gone? Wow, what is next?Did they have the same management company as Memphis?

July at Watkins Glen is to be a double Fingerlakes region is to be Host Region. Or that is the plan right now. Dave is correct to be set at Round Table. T Weaver Comp Board member
 
Dayle, MiDiv schedule discussions are still ongoing. The calendar is VERY close to set, but it's not ready for prime time just yet.


Dean, do you have a definitive source for the statement that Gateway is closed?

In the Midiv scheduling meetings, we're still holding spots for them until the St. Louis reps hear word from their track contacts that there will be no road racing there in 2011.

There have been lots of rumors and assumptions and plenty of "George told Henry who called Fred and talked to Bob and said the track is closed" stuff with reputable names attached, but to the best of my knowledge none of the St. Louis region leadership has received official word from the track at this time.

In all honesty, I expected that announcement to come out very shortly after the Nationwide race there, but it hasn't yet.

Gateway has not made any official announcements on its plans for next year.

Dover Motorsports (which also owns Memphis and Nashville) declined sanctions for their NASCAR events for Gateway in 2011 and NHRA decided to remove Gateway from its 2011 schedule. This is the only facts we have at this point.

St. Louis region (as well as all of the other clubs that use this facility) have had discussions with the track about next years schedule and we have a tentative schedule in place if the track remains open.

We are expecting an official announcement from Dover in the coming weeks and we will be sure to pass along that information when it is released.

I was at the GLDiv Round Table meeting last weekend. The Indy folks told me they have talked with IRP and are working to resurrect the track. It'll take some time and effort but they tell me that IRP's new management is behind this. I think they may be smoking crack......but if it works, I'll be back. They put on a helluva race and I love the layout.

Can anyone from Indy chime in on this?

As Drew posted, Gateway announced that they are closed. We are going to explore a few options, but yeah it sucks that we keep losing tracks.
 
That's a major hit to the St. Louis road racing community at large. I believe they had many other sanctioning bodies that also ran the road course. Someone needs to build a track OUTSIDE of the city nearby. Preferably on the west side so I don't have to drive through that traffic! :mrgreen:
 
MiDiv should add a double national, R/N, or Rational to Motorsports Park Hastings in NE. It was designed by the same company that did MAM. Just like MAM it is a safe, easy track to learn but hard to master.

Great group of people and a great track owner that is a real card and car guy.
 
Where Gateway is there was a drag strip and road course that existed at the same time as Mid-America did. The old course at the Gateway site was a typical combo drag/road course very flat but it had a very long straight with a very fast sweeper at the end. Definitely pucker time. I liked it better than the Gateway road course. A good example of be careful what you wish for. There is a drag strip near me that held a couple of SCCA races in the 70's that used the strip and return road along with a couple of airports in the KC area that held SCCA Races that still exist. Because of insurance I'd think that the time of having races at those kind of venues is long gone. I kind of miss the old airport circuits but I'd really rather race at a modern facility.
 
There are abandoned Outlying fields all over the place once you get west of the Mississippi. Serious WWII bomber supporting stuff and not just large fields. I am suprised that no one uses them as at least a starting off point for a course, but I guess since they are not "natural" road courses, no one would bother.

I agree that this should be looked into as a substitute for the St. Louis dates.
