Registration is now open for the WMR "Majors at Grattan" which will be held on 8/23, 8/24 (wmr-scca.motorsportreg.com). This is the last Major for the Northern Conference so the Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday evening.

The schedule looks like this:

Saturday:
25 minute Qualifying Sessions
20 lap/25 minute Sprint Races
Sunday:
10 minute E-Practices
25 lap/45 minute Feature Races

As usual for WMR, prod/GTL is running by itself (only BSpec runs with us to accommodate a local driver). Make me look good and make this group larger. We're group 3 of 7 (not too early, not too late).

A lot of good reasons to come out:
-If you haven't raced here before, its an awesome race track that is very challenging.
-The track was repaved a couple of years ago and is VERY smooth. Track records will fall....it might as well be you doing it.
-The bathrooms, showers and concession stand kitchen have been completely rebuilt for this season.
-We have, BY FAR, the best track dinner Saturday night and that's included in the entry fee.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (hdf3.wtr80@gmail.com).

Dayle,
I am going to try to make Grattan (work schedule permitting). It is a great place and you do have a nice dinner.

Seven entries so far folks.....not a bad opening bid. There was an OK field at GMan a couple of weeks ago but we know we can do better.

There's lotsa reasons to come out to this one:

1. Let's be honest.....Grattan is more fun to drive than GMan.
2. Bragging rights and Conference championships are on the line.
3. HUGE award ceremony and BBQ dinner on Saturday night (free with entry).
4. Last Major at Grattan?
5. No event at Waterford so WHRRI folks can come on over.
6. I put you in G3...right in the middle of the day, not too early, not too late. I give and give......

I could go on, but why? You know you wanna come tho this one so just do it.

Go to wmr-scca.motorsportreg.com to enter and contact me (hdf3.wtr80@gmail.com) if you have any questions.

WMR will hold a Major at MIS in 2015. PIRC has been mentioned as another possible venue. There's a new track in KY. IMS is out there too. The list goes on and on.

Grattan's my favorite track. Every lap is a challenge...very fun. Where else can you jump your race car?

+1 Tom......... Getting the jump-right-left bowl sequence really right is not EZ! And it feels so good when you do.

Grattan is a great track. I always found the off camber left hander to be a challenge. John Salisbury Jr. and I had a great race there many years ago. We were both under the track record and I won because he blew a head gasket at the end, if i recall correctly, but he got the track record 0.1 sec. faster than me.

I'm actually really, really bummed that I have to miss this event. I LOVE Grattan, and would've relished another shot at Peter Morton's FP record. If you and your car can fly around that place, then you should be good just about anywhere. Pour a little beer out of the keg for me. :(

It is also very entertaining to follow a certain limited prep spitfire over the above mentioned jump, and watching its rear suspension go thru about a bazillion degrees of positive camber
Definitely one of my all-time favorite tracks to run. Always worth the trip around the horn.
Dayle,
I do plan to enter after the Cat Majors wraps up this weekend.

What's going on with this one? Only 55 cars entered, 16 days out... Wish I didn't have to travel for work that weekend. Although, I am flying through DTW :D

Jason, I can pick you up at the Airport just get the car up here!

We need more entries for this awesome track. I see Greg entered, I assume he got fixed whatever was wrong at Road America.

I need more cars to chase...

Good News/Bad News..

The good news is that my new race shop is almost done. I'm having the sub floor insulation delivered so the HVAC guy can install the in floor heat tubes before the concrete gets poured.

The bad news is I have to install it on August 23rd :(

Have a great time.

Steve

Due to a lack of entries in SRF (group 5) and DOT (group 6), we are revising the schedule. We will be combining these two groups, re-ordering the run order (so SM and STL do not run back-to-back) and adding a practice session for all groups. Here are the changes:

1. Group 5 (SRF) will be combined with group 6 (STU, STL, T3, T4). Each group only has eight entries as of this writing.
2. The combined group will now be group 6. Big formula and the sports racers will be group 5.
3. We will shorten the qualifying session from 25 to 20 minutes.
4. We will add a 15 minute UNTIMED) practice session.
5. Sunday's schedule remains unchanged. Two e-prac sessions followed by the six feature races.

Note that this allows for more track time for the folks who signed up early.

Registration is still open and can be found here: wmr-scca.motorsportreg.com

Overall, smallish run groups but lots of good racing I thought all day! Real hot on Saturday, cooler on Sunday. Broken track records all over the place. Great chow on Saturday night.

Our car ran pretty well, learned a lot, got quicker all weekend, lost a few plug wires early in the race on Sunday, parked it. Good end to the season! Thumbs up all the way around!

It was a great weekend weather wise and the first real test for the Sprite and myself.

Good track, great people, and WMR puts on a really good event! Thanks to WMR and special thanks to Melinda Frame on her last race as the Majors Northern Conference Administrator. :applause: :(

I managed to put on my best Cole Trickle impersonation on Saturday during the race hitting both Ron Olsen and Tom Hannagan in the race. Fortunately I only had one shot at the pace car and missed it. My apologies to Ron and Tom. I got a great start (or everybody else was sleeping) and took the HP lead going into T1 and almost held it for a lap. The Sprite was on rails (first time on radials) and I was trying the best I could to keep the RX7 between me and the 510 and probably stuck my nose in a couple places it didn't belong. I could pull Tom and Greg in at will in the twisties just had nothing for the Honda or 510 down the straights...I've got some gearing and HP to work on. Tom and I had a great race swapping positions a few times. I will try to get some video up.

Sunday was turning out to be more of the same for good racing. HP was grouped together for the first 5 laps with Tom and I in chase to Greg. Both Tom I were settling in early as Greg wasn't pulling away but Tom missed a couple shifts that bottle us up and allowed Greg to stretch his lead and forced my hand to try an get by Tom. It was short lived as I fell out on Lap 7 with an engine that went flat. I think it was a valve spring. Tom would go on to run down Greg but then drove it off coarse tearing up his splitter.

Next year...
