I bought a new Spanish Weber 48 DCOE from Pierce to replace my old Italian 48 DCOE. I discovered that the old air horns shown on the left will not fit. The new carb came with ones on the right.
Depending on how it is measured, the one on the left is roughly 32 mm and the one on the right is roughly 55 mm or so.
The new air horn appears to be a much much better design from a flow standpoint but looks like it will move the power band down too far for optimal operation in the 5500-7500 range in my MGB. I have looked for shorter air horns to fit a new 48 but am not seeing anything. I am pulling out for Grattan Thursday early and may not be able to source, ship and fit a shorter set of horns by then.
Do any of you Weberistis have any observations about how much the longer horns really will matter, or sources for shorter horns for new 48's?
