No disrespect to the top 3 picks to win at the Runoffs, but has the author done any research on who has been consistantly fast this season.

Not an easy job, that's for sure, especially when you need to have your picks/story in by like Memorial Day.

I'm not sure I'd want the job of picking podiums either with fields including all of these, and then some...

Fixed!

These are always fun. YMMV

My picks, subject to being completely wrong:

EP
Ira
Toby
Moser
(Dryden and Leigh will be there too and I wouldn't be surprised to see a fast rotary or 2 as well)
Picking Greg because its his home race. He's got a bullet and he's consistently up front. I don't think we've seen what Toby has yet, he has Daytona experience and is a multi-time Champ. Joe's been real fast too and I think it comes together nicely at Daytona. Despite being the man the last couple years, I just don't think Miata is up to the power requirement for an EP Daytona win, but with the draft ya never know.

FP
Charlie C
Kevin
Kent

I've been the pick the last 2 years and didn't deliver, so someone else should have that honor! I like Charlie with the draft and bump draft. He'll have 2x the track time with the SM fun and I think that gives him the edge. Maybe it could be a Miata 1-2-3 (Charlie, me, Bill, Ken and others) if we do things right, but we know how plans go out the window in racing. Kevin's car might have the most power, but he'll be limited with who he can draft with well compared to the convertibles. Kent's got the slipperiest car and it's full prep, which means it can have a surprising amount of HP, if it lasts. Same for Joe. Nobody's going to want to lead this thing at getting back on the oval on the final lap!

HP
Hulse
Perry
Isley

It'll be interesting to see how these three cars, and the others, work in the air. Isley's car looks like a really tall bubble, but it has modern lines and is deceptively slippery despite its frontal area. Hulse has the cabbie and has been so fast. Perry's maybe the best bet for the Hondas, but Brian's got the potential for sure if he can get used to wrong wheel drive. I predict a fun one to watch here.

I love writing stuff and sticking my nose in things. But, writing the story about who is going to win the Runoffs is a almost no win situation. No matter what, only one guy in each class is really going to be happy and the chance of picking it with all the variables presented by racing is low. Might as well go play Bingo at one of the big New York Casinos. The old ladies will be nicer and they hate everybody!

BTW, I hope one of the locals like Bob Hess will give everyone clear instructions on how to access the track. It can be confusing for the newcomer. But, if you do miss the turn, just turn right at the airport entrance and keep the track on your right. You'll eventually come to gate #40. Do not turn into any other entrances cause you can't get to registration from them!

There is a lot of construction going on as Daytona enters the final phase of the "Daytona Rising" Project. The city has upped their game as well so as of this writing the right lane of International Speedway Blvd is often closed.

When coming from I-95 exit at International Speedway Blvd. (US 92) (If coming from the South it is exit 261; if coming from the North it is exit 261A)

Proceed East on International Speedway Blvd. approximately .8 mile (Visual cues include the Home Depot on the right corner of Williamson and International Speedway Blvd.) and turn Right (South) on Williamson Blvd.

Immediately get to the left lane as the first place that you can turn left is the Gate 40 Speedway entrance.

Rob got it. When coming down the blvd from the West stay in the center or right lanes. Street signs are up high on the right. We'll be inside gate 40 to get you to your paddock so if you make the gate you can relax... and have some fun! I am going to ask if there will be any signs at Williamson pointing toward gate 40. Check back here for the answer.

As for predicting, I like Eric's HP top three. AJ Hulse has been running Daytona since he first started driving. He's not only very talented but he and his dad have been working on that same car for years getting it faster and faster. The only reason you haven't seen him around the country before is his young kids that recently hatched. But, like Jim said, no hard cash out of me.

If you want to get some good ideas on what Daytona looks like during an event go to cfrscca.org pictures and hit the August Daytona race.

Everybody, As of yesterday, there are Who Will Win polls at SCCA.com/polls. If you want a name added, leave a comment and as soon as I see it, I'll take care of it. I really enjoy the speculation then comparing to final results! Enjoy!
