Could anyone on the forum please supply information about the shift forks that were used on the early WERACE Hewland/Webster based single rail transmissions that were fitted to the Midgets and Spitfires? Were they Hewland/Webster, modified BLMC pieces, or custom made units? Would appreciate any information such as pictures etc. of the forks and how they were attached to the rails. Thanks for any information. Jerry

Jerry, I make a Dog ring gearbox for the Spit based on the single rail box. Mine uses custom made cast then machined shift forks. They fit just like the stock forks but they fit the dog rings. Joe

Jerry, I have only seen the 3 rail Spit boxes. Those shift forks appear to be a hewland fork cut and brazed to a spitfire fork where it connects to the rail.

Joe does have some nice parts made for his boxes that are much better than WeRace parts.

Jerry, PM sent.

I have some cast shift forks designed to work with the Hewland Mk 5/8/9 dog rings in conversion gearboxes. These are new, and uncut for the shift rail. Contact me and I can email a photo. [I will try to attach a photo, but don't hold your breath.. It may turn out sideways.]

If it looks like a close match, I can send one for you to measure and check out. I have the cutter to mill the dog slot in the fork, which I can loan out or have some forks cut to your specs.

Peter
