SBR&DET Bert Olsen DN / G'Man / July 7, 8

Bump......

This is a few weeks away and I'm the only prod car in our group. Yes, we're with SRFs......but this'll be a great weekend. A DN packed into two days.

Dayle, Clicked on your link to register and your race does not sow up. Maybe that's why you don't have any entries in prod.

I tried it again and it works for me. It's a good fit for folks coming around the horn. I see a lot of cendiv folks already signed up.

Dayle, I'm with Mike.

Below, from the site & the site knows who I am.

"The selected profile could not be found, please select from the list below or add a new profile."

Of course maybe the site knows were area 5, oop's CenDiv folks.

Well I don't know what's going on here. It works for me. But there's more than one way to skin a cat. Search for events in zip code 49090. That's the ZC for South Haven, MI.

As we're grouped with SRFs, and there's 14 of them and 10 of us, I asked the CS if we could get a split start. I think if there was a big disparity in numbers, then a standard grid would be OK. But with an even distribution, it seems to make sense.

C'mon, folks....only 10 prod/GTL? We can do better than that. I notice that 34 of the 100 entries are from CenDiv. Interesting.....very interesting.

Dayle

I'm still thinking about it, as the car needs a bit of work, but will probably be there.

I just did a quick head count and 52 of the 136 entries are from around the horn. Cool!

BTW, we have 18 prods and 18 SRFs so it'll be a full track. We could use some GTLs though....only one so far.

Hopefully there will be plenty of water available. 98 degrees on Saturday, what does that equate to inside a race car?

98 if you drive a roadster. ;-)

"Firey pits of Hell" if you drive a coupe. ;-(

Have a safe trip over. I'm already here and it's appallingly hot. I saw 103 on a bank clock driving in. Ugh! We're waiting to put up the canopy after the sun goes down a little and it cools off.

Signed up last night. Also got my new cooling shirt setup working last night. Coincidence? I think not.

You set up motorsportreg.com for registration, but then don't let people actually pay through motorsportreg.com. Then once they spend all that time, money, and effort to arrive at the track, and you completely have them, you hit them with a $25 fee to run their credit card. That's just brilliant...

Well nobody else has chimed in so I'll put out my own perspective on this....

It was hotter than Hell and keeping hydrated was the name of the game. Sunday was cooler (mid 80's).

I had a GREAT weekend. Looking at the track record (1:50.391), I figured I would be able to be in the 1:52 range. But things really fell into place for us. I made a penultimate lap pass for a win on Saturday (how exciting was that?), set a qual lap record and got HP pole and a second place on sunday, qualified for the Runoffs....its all good. 21 divison points, 27 national points. Woohoo! I NEVER thought I'd ever sniff a lap record....but all the prep and hard work has been worth it. In the end my 1:49.034 felt pretty good. Now I gotta back it uop at Grattan and RA.

But enough about me......the races were pretty good too. We were with SRF's (19 of them) and Had feared the worst. But due to the flexibility of our Chief Steward (John Peterson), we got split starts and it worked out OK. Scott Rettich was on ther SRF pole and he guided them to a descent gap. As an HP car towards the back of the field, the gap he left was large enough to allow us prod cars to settle things out a bit befotre the lead SRF;'s came charging through. Kudos to him for that. Oddly enough, I don't think there was too much contact between us and them (I know Joe Walker collected one). But they managed to hammer on each other pretty good. I was surpised to see so many of them by the side of the road. And there was the usual fiberglass laying around the track.

The scariest moment was during Saturday's race when Moser and Halkias came together. Reports differ about the cause but the end result was Moser's car flying over Sam's. I didn't see the incident but arrived with dust and debris still flying (not a whole lot of lateral vision in these H&N gizmos). I thought it was pretty ugly. A corner worker friend of mine thought he was dead. Then the car drove off. Moser was done for the day. But the Moser/Loshak gang got her repaired and they picked up the W on Sunday. Loshak told nme that hte muffler had a blue dent from Sam's roll cage. Think about thast the next time a tech person wonders if you comply with the 2" rule.

No mylaps yet.

Challenging track, great food Saturday night, but why spoil it with registration when you first arrive Saturday morning. Blind siding you, charging 5% additional to the entry fee, because you are using the credit card. Registered on the Motorsport web site and nowhere did it say that there was a extra charge for using your credit card.To add insult to injury one of the Registrar's comment was "Do you expect us to pay the 5% credit card fee". FYI credit card fees are way less than 5%.

Everyone,
I am NOT speaking for SBR/DET. I only add this post for clarification.

MSR charges event organizers 5% for using credit cards. Thats the only charge they take from the service. No 'race setup' fees, no 'per head' attendance fees, etc. They are very helpful people and their product is very well done. It is a convenient and easy way to enter an event. But the system is in its infancy and still has flaws. But regions save a lot of money not having to mail entries to eligible drivers, we can email all entrants about changes in the event, etc. I even emailed every entrant last year when there was a construction zone that would delay folks and gave them an alternate route. You couldn't do that without MSR.....or many hours looking up and entering email addresses.

This fee was in the supps. The fact that it wasn't on MSR is wrong on SBR/DET's part. I know some SBR and DET folks and I will point this out to them for their future reference.

Whenever I post about one of WMR's races, I always mention that we'd appreciate folks paying by check so we don't eat this cost. By law, we're not allowed to charge more for folks using a CC. We even allow you to bring the check to the track (as I did at this event) without penalty. If you pay by CC and withdraw, then we pay you back with a check (minus the 5%) so we don't incur the CC fee twice. We have to keep costs down and this is one way to do it. In these tough times, regins have to watch where they spend every dollar. And eating $22.50 on an entry is significant. It used to be that 20% of drivers used CC's...now its more like 60%. Do the math. That means using MSR is very expensive for a region. If drivers used checks, then our costs go down and the we can keep our entry fee static.

Dayle

Dayle,
All your points are valid, except for when I was on Motorsportorg.com and hit Register the fee was $450. No mention of extra charge paying by credit card. Every race that I have ever entered on that web site was the price that was quoted. Chicago region does not even run your credit card until a few days before the event. So I guess I am guilty for not reading the "reply" from Motorsportorg that read "Thank you for registering" I opened it this morning and it said to mail check to "registrar" but nowhere did it say there will be a extra charge for credit card payment. FYI that subject was a mayor discussion in the paddock.
