Road America in bygone days

OOPS!

Meant to post here.

Notice rolling, hands-off wheel brake test in Tech, and use of uni-syn on S. U. carbs. Also, lack of Armco or concrete barriers.

Pretty sure that's me walking in front of camera at 12.52; scary.

Look at transporter at 6:20. All the VWs racers dream. Probably slower than my F350 but I would love to have it.

Chuck,
I believe that is Bill Wuesthoff's transporter. They still have it. I saw it at VW fest here in town a couple of years ago. That's my dad in one of those shots too. He raced with him at a lot of the events.

Check out the spectator parking inside corner 14 up the hill to the bleachers north of the concession stand. Didn't need as much paddock when there were no enclosed trailers or motor homes.

Also, check out rows of standing spectators on many corners. Crowds got larger in the '60s. Couldn't see grass on many of the corners due to masses of spectators, especially corner 5.

The "Golden" years.

That is super cool. The miracle of a portable power plant....Some things don't change (wrenching all night), but some things do (all drivers are courteous to each other).

Happy Holidays,
