Opinions on Advance Design suspension?

Am always shopping for better stuff than the cheap "japanese" coilovers on the car. This summer's plan was to buy decent suspension. Ran across a set of lightly used Advance Design shocks that fit the car. Wondering what opinions are on these vs. a set of beginner-level AST, Ohlins, Penske?

I have heard from numerous poeple they leak pressure quick. Bring your Nitrogen bottle if you buy them. Penskes can sit for years without losing a pound.

I had a set on an ITA CRX, and they worked great, but required rebuilds a little more frequently than I would've liked.

And since when were AST's, Penske's, and Ohlins' "beginner level"? Having never used any if those, what does that make me?

Good points.. I'm on "beginner level" stuff right now. Time to upgrade to good stuff. I meant "entry level" for THEIR product lines, which is a huge step above $1000 JDM yO! dorifto stuff that's on the car now. i.e. I'm looking at a $2500 setup vs. the $7500 Motons my competition is running.

... and I just found out the ADs I was looking at won't fit my chassis anyway, so it's a moot point. :\

I've heard great things about the koni race shocks. I have the Japanese kit on mine also, progressive I believe. Which was a good set up on the street compared to my kyb kit

I'm going to konis next on my '91 crx. Any ya or na's would be appreciated :)

Penske's all the way..........loved them on my H car but not sure about struts if you use them.

I ran advanced design on my previous EP car. Although I never had any problems with them, now that I've driven on the "good stuff", I can't recommend them. In my limited and not-particularly-fast experience I would say if Koni singles are a 1 and (Penske/Dynamic/Moton) are a 10, then advanced design are about a ... 1.

Counterpoint - Tom Thrash won the runoffs on them.

I do "OK" on the junk I have now. I'd like to do "better than OK"... :)

Sorry for being vague OK = 2nd, 1st, 2nd in GP at the runoffs for Mathis (and being knocked into the T1 bridge at M-O in the runoffs from a podium spot), podium in HP at the runoffs for Albin, front row at the ARRC in ITB for me. All fwd cars. I don't have any rwd experience.

No worries. I've heard the names, although I don't specifically know them. Everyone's opinion of "ok" is different. considering there are two World Challenge cars and a very well prepped Z4 in the area, all I can hope for on my budget is "OK". need about 7-8 sec a lap to compete with the really fast guys, and suspension and engine alone won't do that.
