39 total entries? A 2 car race group?

Is this normal for a Hastings Regional?

Can that be a viable program?

In the past the Hastings races has gone all over the place. Canceled one year. No race their for a couple years. MAM flooded and MPH had a double national with good turn out.

The region is most likely losing money on the race. A little over a week ago, they reduced from 5 run groups (plus a bonus race for the IT/regional only classed cars) down to the 3 run groups. Looks like that even with the bonus run group they were finished at around 3:30 PM.

Non-majors racing have really suffered this year in the MiDiv. NRSCCA only had 49 cars at MAM over the 4th of July weekend. StL had 42 cars at Gateway (they also had a drivers school and PDX not included in car count) DMVR canceled the Iowa speedway race. Mid-South cancelled the race at Memphis.

The best-organized, most-fun event I've ever been to was at Hastings in 2012.

It's no longer viable because there's no more National racing, not because of anything the region did.

Expect that to be the story of the SCCA for the next few years.

Unfortunately the national guys have all gone to the Majors only route this year and that has really hurt regional racing.
By the way, Iowa Speedway Sept 20-21st has also been cancelled. That's 3 cancelled events so far in MiDiv.
