At the 2011 NEDiv Roundtable, the Northeast Division Council affirmed the recommendation of its National Racing Committee (NRC) to hold a full slate of Bonus National races in 2012. A Bonus National race is a concept developed by the NRC to enhance National Racing in the Northeast Division. It consists of the normal slate of National races plus a second National race on a separate sanction for one of the standard division run groups. The entire event is conducted on a two day weekend.
Two prototype Bonus National races were run last year at BeaveRun and Nelson Ledges to test the concept and gauge competitor response. Both events were deemed a success by the regions and competitors. For 2012, the following schedule of Bonus National races were established by the participating regions:
Date / Track / Region / Group
2-3 June / New Jersey / South Jersey / SRF
7-8 July / Watkins Glen / Glen / FV, F500, FF
28-29 July / Pittsburgh Intl (BeaveRun) / Steel Cities / (1) EP, FP, HP, GTL, STU, STL and (2) SM,SSB,SSC,T2,T3
11-12 August / Pocono / Tri Region / (1) GT1, GT2, GT3, STO, AS, T1 and (2) FA, FC, FM, S2, CSR, DSR, FE, FB
The full Bonus National program developed by the NRC:
All regions holding single Nationals will be permitted to select a different National race group (based on the NEDiv Reserved Number schedule) and offer a Bonus National race for that group which complies with all of the GCR requirements for a Double National (race length, qualifying time, etc.). The second race would be run under a separate sanction; the competitors in this group would have the opportunity for two national races and double points. On an annual basis, each National race group will be selected once by eligible regions selecting in reverse order of their previous year's national entry count. A region may not select the same group in two consecutive years unless no option is available. If there are fewer regions requesting a Bonus National than reserved number groups, the unselected group(s) after the initial assignments will be offered to the regions in the same order as the initial selection. No bonus national event may have more than two bonus groups. The NEDiv National Racing Committee will be responsible for the administration and scheduling of the Bonus National Program.
