NESCCA Returns to the Northeast

NESCCA Returns to the Northeast

At its spring meeting, the NEDiv National Racing Committee decided to reactivate the NESCCA National Racing Championship Series. The series was very prominent in the late 1990's but has been inactive for the past decade. The primary purpose of the revived series is to provide National-level competition and a championship for the majority of NEDiv National drivers who do not attend the Runoffs. An analysis has shown that about 80% of the drivers who compete in NEDiv National races do not attend the Runoffs.

Along with the revival of NESCCA, the NRC is planning to add a new emphasis to National racing in the division. Most races will have checker flag victory laps and all will have victory circle trophy presentations. A separate section on the new NEDiv web site will be devoted to the NESCCA series with the schedule, rules and results. Additional stories and features will be added as available.

The main intent of the existing GCR-mandated division championship is to qualify competitors for the Runoffs. The current formula permits multiple out-of-division races and has no minimum participation for championship consideration. It will remain intact to determine Runoff invitations but will have less visibility within the division.

The NESCCA series will consist of all National races conducted by North East Division regions including the Rational, the Double National and all of the Bonus Nationals. No out of division races are included in the series. The results of all series races will be used for the championship points accumulation and a driver must start at least four series races to be eligible for a championship. Finish points will be awarded to the top ten finishers in each class on a 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 scale. Start points and pole position points will also be awarded. The complete rules can be found on the NEDiv web site.

Just to be clear, maybe it's just me..

When it says bonus for some classes, that means others can race, but the bonus classes get something extra. It's fine to encourage some classes or give them some sort of bonus, provided the rest get to enter.

Can someone explain the bonus deal.

The run groups in parenthesis above will have the equivalent of a double national. To use the Jersey event as an example. There will be two SRF National races that weekend, whereas there will be one for each other run group.

The idea is that each run group has their own "double national" during the season.

the bonus is like a double national for just that race group. We do these for single national races in the NE to give a group a little extra. The bonus "group" rotates around during the year.

So for the bonus groups it will be a double and all others it is a single NAT?

That is fine, I just wasn't sure what the deal was.

Thank's

The Northeast Division web site has now been enhanced with a NESCCA 'corner' devoted to National racing in the division. When you visit the site, you can click on the main menu 'NESCCA' tab or go directly to http://www.nediv.com/nescca . This site will have the schedule, series rules, announcement and the series points. It will be the central point for Northeast Division National racing information.

If you have any comments or information to contribute, they can be sent directly to Meg Meyer, the NEDiv webmaster ( webmaster@nediv.com ) or to me ( THanushek (at) rcn.com ) and I will forward them.

We hope that you will find this site useful.
