Mini Oil Pump Priming

So, my Dad is trying to resurrect an old Mini 1000 that's been sitting for a few years. It was known to be running with no issues when parked up, but now cannot get any oil pressure.

Any tricks on how to prime the oil pump?? Remove the external feed pipe and try backfilling it from there maybe??

Any hints welcome!
TIA.

Hi Bob

yes , you can back fill from the pipe, you can even turn the motor backwards by hand and it will suck oil back through the pump.

Remove the spark plugs and leave the big bolt on the pipe 1 turn loose.put a rag under it and crank.
As soon as you have a real leak, tighten the big bolt and crank till you see oil P. on the gauge.

I have run into this a few time in my years of fooling with minis. I remove the banjo bolt at the top rear of the block. Taking an oil can with a pump I pump 30 wt or 20/50 into the hole slowly until it runs out. Wait a while and repeat..Replace the banjo bolt (or oil cooler line) and remove the plugs and crank until you see pressure. This technique has never failed me except one time when the pressure relief bullet was also stuck so the oil just ran back into the sump/trans. Good Luck.

+1 J. Becker ..........if that fails (which I doubt) call me. There is another very good method.
