Well the final MARRS race for the 2011 season is in the books.
Thanks to all who came and participated.

We had a missing man lap of honor for Ken Buchel at the start of Sunday's race. Ken's entire family attended. I asked all of the racers in the Small Bore group to sign a checkered flag with the DC Region logo on it which I gave to Barb Buchel.
Thanks to all of the volunteer workers who came trackside for the lap of honor and waved the flags and paid their respects to our fallen friend. I want to send a big thanks to my youthful ward, Bob Rappleye, for not allowing me to be overcome with emotion during that lap of honor. Thanks for keeping me in my basket Bob.
It was very interesting for me to watch my seven year old daughter,Porsche walk out trackside with the other volunteers from timing and scoring and wave the yellow flag that was given to her, I think by Shelia Hunter. She waved it just as I taught her, and how I was taught at Novice flaggers school so many years ago. Our own Kenny Nesbit was the driver of the car next to the missing man space for the lap of honor. Thanks Kenny.
I hope that we gave Ken Buchel a respectable send off.

Congrats to our MARRS Small Bore champions (unofficial) is in order as well.
EP Scott Lowery
FP Jim Harrison

GTP Bruce Shelton

Thanks for a great 2011 season, I am already looking forward to 2012.

Let the Silly Season begin!!!!!!!

I think MacQueen got HP, didn't he? Frank broke on Saturday IIRC and lost out to Greg Nagy on the last lap Sunday to take 4th. My math says Mike got the championship...

With drops I'm showing Frank at 1970, Mike at 2010 and me at 1590....

Hence my disclaimer of "unofficial".
I will wait patiently for the official word from the points keeper, but I do not doubt your numbers.
cheers

That was one of the funnest weekends I've had at Summit.

The Sunday race was crazy. All I could think about was giving Dan Rolfe and his BMW '02 a good race. I was on his tail thru the second lap when my motor practically stopped running. It stumbled for half a lap as I watched car after car pass me by. Then It magically "fixed" itself and I was back on the gas, running like hell to catch up.

It was a blast trying to get by everyone but I was disappointed to see Dan parked inside the Carousel with a seized diff. That wasn't the way I wanted to pass him. :)

Great weather, great people, great time. Looking forward to MARRS 2012!

Congratulations, Scott - you always drove hard & clean.

Greg - confused on the points system? We ran 9 races in the MARRS series this year, but you get to count only your top seven finishes. Frank ran all nine, so with the dropping of his two least productive races (a total of 260 points) we went into the MARRS 9 weekend with me 40 points behind. I had second in the Saturday race (90 points), and Frank did not get a finish when his fuel pump crapped out, ergo no points. I finished second again on Sunday (250 points) while Frank finished 4th (200). So for the weekend I was +140 points on Frank, which gave me the crown. Next year will be better and more competitive, since we'll have you (for the whole series, I hope), the CRX which broke on Labor Day, Carolyn with a bigger cam (and tires that have rubber on them), Frank and lord knows who else. Randy and Al Seim seem to run partial schedules. This year you had to run a minimum six events to be in the championship hunt.

Dave I couldn't think of a place I would rather have been. In the beginning of the week-end I really wanted the overall pole so I could give it up for Ken, but once the lap started and I looked at the empty spot next to me I got a lump in my throat the size of a basketball....I couldn't have been more proud.

Thinking that lump must have been why I lost four spots on the start ... :ask:

Congratulations to all the Champions, well done !!

Oh I do understand the points. I just didn't know going in it was so close, that my finishing ahead of Frank had an impact on the championship.

Not that I would have tried any less to catch back up and pass him.
