Looking for control arm fab part

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a threaded insert, which I've seen used as an inner heim-joint mount on a control arm.

I was pretty sure UBMachine sold something, but I looked through their catalog this morning to no avail.

This picture is not exactly what I'm looking for, but gives you an idea:

Where the heim joint is mounted, the part I'm looking for
1) is threaded along its ID to match the heim joint
2) is smooth (non-threaded) along it's OD so that it can freely rotate inside a tube on the a-arm
3) has either flats for a wrench, or a nut welded to the opposite side (missing in the photo above)
(In the photo, the part holding the heim joint appears to be threaded on the outside as well - and screwed into the control arm - I don't want that.)

The point of this thing is to lengthen the control arm, without having to remove the heim joint (for easy camber/ caster / whatever adjustment)

Anyone know where I can get something like that? I'd like the complete set of insert and supporting outer tube to use on the a-arm.

The way those work is the heim has left hand threads and the insert has right hand threads. loosen both jam nuts and turn the thing, and it extends/contracts without having to remove the heim joint.

I've seen the version you mention as well, and most of the import parts guys went to the style shown above for simplicity reasons.

I saw some of them listed on midwest control's website a while back, but they were right hand threads on both sides so it served as a reducer bushing instead of an adjuster.

What I wound up doing was just buying a 12mm left-hand tap (since I drive a Nissan..), and I bought some 3/4" fine thread bolts, then drilled and tapped the center of the bolt with the 12mm. took me a couple hours to do all 6 of them, but it got the job done. A proper machine shop could do it in much less time.

On that note, it shouldn't be hard to have a local machine shop with a lathe cut what you need. it would of course be mroe expensive than finding it online for $15, but you'd get exactly what you want.

I bought some similar adjusters as to what you are looking for from the guys at Rod End Supply.
They actually made them for me.
Great guys to deal with.

Jim was the person I talked to, he made me some adjusters, some spacers and sold me some good rod ends.
One stop shopping.
Happy customer.

Try Summit Racing or Speedway Motors. Look for weld on nuts or weld in bungs. With slight modification for flats, they could work as you want.

Another plus for Rod End Supply. Been buying rod ends and tie rod tubes from them for years. good people.

Good find Ron. $25/adjuster is a good price - I'll call and find out what size thread is on the control arm.

Thanks Bobby - seems like maybe I should change my design to use these double threaded dealios. Hard to beat $9... Make that $15 still a great price.

This is what you want if you can use a 3/4 thread. I use a 3/4x5/8 rod end for the upper control arm outer joint, bushed as needed. Price has gone up since last time I ordered but still a good deal. If you know anyone with a lathe, all you need is a little hex stock and some tubing, I've made them before and will again, but sometimes it's just as easy to buy them.
