H Prod impound was a mess. The top six were kept in impound for 26 hours and 56 minutes. Attendance by a member of each team was required except when the cars were locked up at 7:28 PM on Friday evening but starting again before 7:30 AM Saturday. Finally released at 3:58 PM on Saturday, according to Rick Mitchell's watch. Extensive teardown of first three, an RFA, then two protests, then two appeals. No action on any of them so provisional results stood. The new computer system to track activities and notify when to release from Tech failed to work for HP. Appeals Court made final decision mid-morning Saturday but we were not released before those in impound threatened to riot. Pitchforks and torches were mentioned. The winner must have been back on the west coast by the time of final Victory Lane ceremonies.
We must do better.
When Rick Mitchell and Mike West, Appeals Court, found out about what was going on, they took action promptly, but it was after 3:30 PM by then. Not their fault, but they fixed it when they found about the total foul-up.
The race finish was a mess with A. J. coming across the finish line in third place, going backwards in the grass. Impound was worse.
