Hi guys,
Last winter changed my steel roof to fiberglass. Now my GPS antenna will not work. Any suggestions for fixes I can do at the track? Will a layer of foil tape around the antenna work?

I have the GPS antenna for my Rumblestrip 3M'd double taped to a peice of plastic and it works fine.

With our (Race Technology) antennas and systems, having a conductive ground plane helps but honestly makes little difference, and I think that's typical.

The problem is something else.

Are you having transmitting issues or adhesion issues?

3M 4945 VHB tape is ideal for that application. It's called 'super-automotive" tape in the industry. It's plasticizer migration resistant too, so you can apply it even if there is vinyl graphics where you want to mount.

I am surprised Al didn't mention you may have the dreaded antenna wire lead issue.
Fragile in the area of the antenna base.
Test the GPS with a known good antenna and see if that helps.
A 18" square of aluminum for the base , riveted to the roof may help a bunch.
YMMV
