Getting a 1275 Spridget quiet at Waterford Hills

Going to try a club race at Waterford with my vintage Spridget. Car has a healthy 1275 with the open exhaust exiting out the driver's right just before the rear wheel under the car (not thru the tranny tunnel - maybe next year). As I understand it the sound meter is on driver's left down the back straight, 75db limit - no wiggle room. Any suggestions as to making it under the limit without having to reengineer the car? SuperTrapp? Cherry Bomb?

Bring it to Grattan instead.......?

I'm sure it can be done. I've seen prod cars run there before. But their rules say "visible muffler" so reengineering may be in your future one way or another. I doubt a 'WHRRI compliant' exhaust system would be an advantage anywhere else. I never wrestled with it since I had a through tunnel system that stopped before the rear axle....and NOTHING would be visible under there.

Peter Morton should chime in here as he drove a Sprite there for quite a few years. Where are you Peter?

Would love to come to Grattan but that is sport bike weekend - that would be a bit too much engineering to make that work.

EZ,

The rule is you have to run a commercially available muffler, cherry bomb, super crap, or other. The sound meter is at the property line behind the large wall on the back straight. I have never had a problem with the single 2-1/4" cherry bomb and exiting drivers right.

We ran various setups on our Spit at Waterford. We started with a Supertrapp but it kept burning out the fiberglass. The current setup we have is a bullet style muffler maybe 12-14 inches long that fits between the frame rails of the Spit with a little hammer work to the muffler. It did the job there and barely impacts power. I like driving with the muffler even though we run a straight pipe elsewhere (need that extra hp!)...no ringing in the ears afterward. We also run a baffle to direct sound to driver's right. It is not visible unless you're under the car and we never had a problem. Waterford is a very fun Spridget/Spitfire track. So is Grattan.

Lift way before to way after the meter

That's funny, at Waterford Hills are you ever really more than 300 feet from the meter, unless you leave the facility?
