Vacuum advance is mostly for part throttle cruise . It can also destroy pistons on lift throttle overrun with a lot of vacuum . If you can map it well, most of these little issues can be addressed. No reason on a race car for sprint races. IMHO.
For endurance racing, with limited fuel, there may be a useable situation.
