Superb entry level class that will truly teach you to drive. Other than alignments pretty much a low effort class. I switched from HP to SM in 2006 and have never regretted the change. Drive in a class with fields of 45+ not 2 or 3.

Drago Purchased 1994 Spec Miata For Sale

Features:
• Purchased in early 2006 from 2012 SCCA SM National Champion Jim Drago http://www.scca.com/news/index.cfm?cid=51155 , http://www.eaststreet.com/
• Selling car so I can start renting enduro rides at tracks that are impractical tows here in the US and maybe the UK.
• Only 16 total races through 2012 since purchase per log book
• Strong Race Engineering 1.8L pro built race engine new in 2006. Race Engineering is recognized as one of the premier SM engine builders in the country http://www.raceengineering.org/
• Redline synthetic lubricants used exclusively in engine (after break in of course), trans, differential, front hubs, water wetter http://www.redlineoil.com/
• 4.3 differential ratio Torsen, you can have the 4.1 ring and pinion if you want it
• C&R (all the Sprint Cup teams use them) Super Heavy Duty radiator. Designed and developed to exceed the cooling capacity of the Springfield Dyno radiator http://www.springfielddyno.com/products.htm without all of their workmanship and quality problems. Car runs so cool in traffic that I currently run a 185F Mazda thermostat to avoid overcooling. Great piece of craftsmanship, the best there is, period. http://www.crracing.com/radiators
• Consistent and balanced setup
• Mazda OEM oil filters used exclusively….it makes a difference
• Carbotech brake pads with XP12 fronts, XP10 rear. I’ve found these to have the best feel and initial bite http://ctbrakes.com/
• K&N air filter from day 1 http://www.knfilters.com/search/product ... od=33-2034
• Upgraded to 99 Miata top hats…helps keep the car off the bump stops
• Fat Cat Motorsports bump rubber SM kit http://www.fatcatmotorsports.com/
• Currently running legal 1.6L front swaybar, 1.8L bar included for tuning
• A few small body dents/scratches from hard racing…..nothing serious….better than most
• Mazdaspeed chin spoiler
• SCCA mandated fuel test port
• Remote trunk and fuel door pull lanyards
• Trick aluminum driver window cover keeps the rain out of interior when off track
• Still has passenger side door panel and window glass so an approximate 20# weight reduction is feasible if you install NASCAR bar on right cage
• Long wheel studs
• 1 set black Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels with mounted Toyo Proxes RA1 shaved slicks, originally delivered 4/32 tread. Lots of tread left for many weekends of racing. RA1’s get faster and faster until they cord. http://www.teamdynamicsracing.com/
• 1 set black Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels with excellent mounted Toyo Proxes RA1 rain tires- 4 sessions total on the rains I think, both sets of TD 1.2 wheels purchased new when I purchased car in 2006
• Rust free blue 1994 chassis
• Precisely laid out front and rear chassis centerlines. Makes for super accurate and consistent wheel alignments
• Wired for radios including radio box, 12” x12” x .030” roof interior copper ground plane, antenna hole in roof with plug
• Stock dash so you will need to purchase an aftermarket tachometer (stock unit is horribly inaccurate) unless you purchase AIM DAQ option below
• Auxiliary oil pressure and water temperature gauges.
• Springfield dyno exhaust system http://www.springfielddyno.com/products.htm#1
• Blueprinted front hubs using Redline synthetic grease
• Cage hooks for steering wheel and helmet
• Unfinished LED warning light project on DAQ dash plate. Irrelevant if stock dash is reinstalled (ie DAQ option not selected). Intent is to replicate all factory dash warning/signal lights with LEDs. EZ to finish, I can explain.
• Steering wheel quick disconnect
• NACA duct in left vent window for driver cooling
• Embossed aluminum under car heat shield substantially lowers foot well temp
• Aftermarket aluminum pedal covers and heel/toe extension plate
• Car is 100% SCCA legal
• UltraShield 18” wide aluminum seat with tweed cover for larger driver, with supportive shoulder supports as depicted in below link. Currently narrowed 2” with removeable hard foam side inserts http://www.ultrashieldrace.com/prod.php?id=8
• FIA 5 point belts good through 2014 season
• Bolt in helmet halo pads in spares
• Wide angle rear view mirror, also an 8” diameter round passenger side convex mirror, great for videos and for passing warning
• Calibrated ohmmeter fuel sensor with terminals in trunk eliminates fuel run out concerns
• Race alignment/corner weight setup sheets
• AMB Transponder
• 2 ignition keys
• Wired for cool suit, floor alignment brackets, tiedown hooks for cooler, variable speed motor controller to precisely control water flow to your cool shirt. Cooler, pump, hoses, shirt not included, see options below.
• Miscellaneous spares, body paint, see photo
• $16,500 FOB Oberlin, OH

Options available after the cars sells:

• AIM Mychron3 XG log data acquisition system fully installed and proven. Sensors include lat G, fore/aft G, MPH, oil pressure, water temperature, RPM, throttle angle, cockpit temperature, steering angle, AFR, gear. Also includes Infrared beacon. Includes 10 LED shift lites, last lap time, adjustable alarms for any measured sensor. If you take into account that the real cost of this full installed and sorted DAQ is really $100 to $200 less ( you will need to purchase a tach with the car)…..you won’t find a cheaper DAQ system that includes truly professional analysis software. In a DAQ system you are REALLY buying the analysis software as most of the competing hardware is very similar….pay super close attention to the software….AIM is some of the best and is constantly improving and evolving. I highly recommend this option if your intent is to go faster every weekend. http://www.aimsports.com/products/m3-xglog/index.html $600
• Wideband AFR fully installed and proven. FJO model CWC0002 http://www.fjoracing.com/ with NTK premium sensor, not the cheaper UEGO sensor. Includes real time digital dash display and AIM DAQ logging feature. Great insurance that there are no engine mixture issues $250
• Cool suit system less shirt, installed and functional. Fully gasketed cooler lid to eliminate on track cornering leaks. You may not think you need a cool suit in a SM but I have measured interior temps at 125F on the shift tunnel on only 90F ambient days. Helps you make good decisions behind the wheel. $200
• Spare set of black Team Dynamics 1.0 race wheels with junk Hoosier slicks that are only suitable for holding air. Wheels have some road rash $300
• Custom fabricated string alignment bar system similar yet more robust and better than Iron Canyon’s http://www.ironcanyonmotorsports.com/ic ... ystem.html , caster measurment tool that locates on stock caliper bolts to directly read caster, wheel/rack centering tool (but you need three 1/8” clecos and a set of cleco pliers to use this device). Custom fitted and calibrated to this particular SM chassis but can easily be recalibrated for any SM. Mounts out of the way on trailer wall. All 3 tools for $200
• Koyo Heavy Duty 53mm spare race radiator. http://www.longroadracing.com/koyoracin ... 90-97.aspx Most prolific SM racing radiator, great insurance $150
• Mittler Bros electronic wheel scales 1000#/wheel capacity. Includes electronics case and storage bin for scales. If you’re going to seriously race a SM, scales are mandatory $600
• Mittler Bros Accu-Lign precision alignment plates http://www.mittlerbros.com/index.php/ta ... ystem.html Just like the Indy car guys use for their string alignments Fits 4X100mm bolt circle. $700 new $400
• Nitrogen tank (42”? large) and regulator, air hose $130
• Mittler Bros EZ Sweep caster/slip plates New, never used. $200 http://www.mittlerbros.com/index.php/ta ... tes-1.html
• Kenwood TK360, 3 channel, 4 watt VHF (450mhz) radio system- 2 radios, crew headset, spare battery, charger, radio belt, car harness, regular antenna, shot glass aero antenna, antenna cable, steering wheel Velcro PTT switch, nice aluminum foam lined carrying case. You will need to purchase your own ear transducers as mine are custom molded. http://www.fixya.com/search/p125973-ken ... 360_manual $250
• Custom fit indoor Miata car cover with mirror pockets, bag. Very good shape http://www.car-covers.com/covers/cars/m ... /1994.html $30
• 20x8 Pace American Shadow GT enclosed trailer http://www.paceamerican.com/trailers/shadow - excellent rust free chassis, nearly new tires, extremely clean interior. Has full 8’ wide aluminum workbench surface with backsplash, under workbench storage system using home center storage boxes for spares, mounted 4” vice, overhead aluminum tire rack to handle 10 SM tires, storage boxes above both wheel boxes, electric brakes, full length floor track system for car tie down, additional flush mount car hold downs, Pit Pal door organizer/workbench http://www.pitpal.com/products/Deluxe_T ... r-1-1.html , Pit Pal tie down holder, helmet storage rack, polished aluminum tread plate rear interior door/ramp, aluminum wheels (1 is discolored from overheated brake about 5 years ago….brake fixed), 3.5k axles, 3 extra mounted spare tires on steel rims (you can never have too many spare wheels/tires when towing) , custom fabricated single post engine hoist that works off 2” receiver that will allow engine pulling when attached to tow vehicle receiver…..it’s pretty slick, holder for 4 fuel jugs, Nitrogen tank holder, nice flooring treatment, wired for 110V power with external generator plug in, 12V lights, I’m sure the breakaway battery needs replacing, 1 small dent in polished stainless trim where side door swung open once, SuperWinch electric winch and battery, 3 roof vents (1 needs repair), highly faded and ugly black exterior. Call for pics. $3300
• Weight distributing hitch for race trailer. Really a must with an SM in the trailer but I am selling with friction Reese Sway control http://www.reese-hitches.com/products/8 ... MgodqSMAOw both as a package $200

Wow. You all have a lot of Miata racers in Ohio. Here in MIDIV SM only drew 1.7 more National entries per race than HP, and was surpassed by both FP and EP this year.

Sounds like a nice car. Good luck with the sale.

Curtis,

I may have misled you a little. I have raced in fields of 45....but typical is more like 30+. Smallest I can ever recall was 15.

Regardless, whether you are at the pointy or blunt end of the field...or in the middle like me...... there is ALWAYs someone to race door to door with. You sharpen your driving skills or get punted off the track. I have the bump draft scars on the back bumper to prove it!
