diff fluid level

Just putting the oil in the rear end of my sprite for Sebring next week and I was wondering if anybody has tried NOT filling it till the oil runs out the sight hole. It measures about a quart at that point. If not what amount due you use. I have tried to seal thd axles to keep the oil from the bearing and packed the bearings with grease. Thanks

The implication is that you're wondering if less diff fluid will help with hub leakage issues. If that's true, don't use less fluid, solve the leaking hub problem. A good O ring, permatex black and a jam nut on each stud will help alleviate the issue.

Any grease you use on the bearings won't hold the diff fluid out of the hub. At operating temperatures that thick grease will thin considerable and diff fluid can pass through the grease.

Thanks for the opinions. I have installed block offs in the strengthening webb in the diff housing. I packed the bearings with grease for lubrication not to stop oil passage.
