Cameras

Sony handicam...$100 at best buy. For that kind of money you can get a nice HD camera now. Go there and see them all side by side.

Now the guy with a monstrous full cage (who made fun of us with single hoop aero cages) is worried about a little aero drag from a camera???????????!

Come on Harold....what are you really up to? Or have you just mellowed? ;^)

I have the Replay XD and I like it a lot.
Really small, takes good video, indestructible and they have great customer service.

The 720p looks like it can be had for $150 or under on Amazon, the 1080p for $250 SRP or less.
They gave me a return customer discount on upgrading my old 420p for a 1080p.
Couldn't be nicer people to deal with.
Setup and aiming took all of 10 minutes. I think it took me longer to get it out of their packaging than to get it operational.

Hey JimmyP,

How's the light contrast on one of those replays? I've been using a Samsung Gs-Pv150 sport cam with the remote bullet and the light ballance is so bad, that I have to mount it under my mirror with only a hood shot. I'd like to mount on the cage and record my response to what's going on outside, but it seems there's never enough capacity to film both inside and outside light levels at the same time.

I think its pretty good. I don't have anything to compare to as the Replay was my first camera.
I don't have any of the videos posted with the new 1080 version I just bought, but I have one from their original 480p version, the first camera Replay released.
This video was very late in the day at Summit Point, lots of low angle light and shadows and I think the camera did a respectable job of handling the contrast & glare.

The new 1080p version looks WAY better than this one. The field of view is wider, the contrast is better and of course its over double the resolution.

Thanks JimmyP,

That looks better than my SC-X210L.

they really are a pretty decent camera in a super small and simple package.
The latest versions that are on sale now are much better than that original version in that video I posted.
The 720p is $150 and the 1080p is $250 but if you were fine with the version in the video they are selling for under $100 around the internet.

I bought the REPlay XD for 150 bucks on ebay or amazon. Forget which. Tiny camera, tiny mounts. I set it us using the billet clamp mount I used for the Contour. Worked fine. Has 40min recording time. Only bad part is that it puts out a .avi file that is ~1.5 gig for 40 min, so download time is long.
Happy so far

Mine, too, has a built in battery that only lasts 40 minutes. And that can be an issue. I got around that by powering it off the car using a USB/cigarette lighter adapter. Now it's got power when the ignition has power allowing it to record ad nauseum.
