AVRG - Hallet, OK - July 2-3 - Results

Unfortunately, the EP race was not very good. I was hoping to get chance to play with Sam in his E labeled FP Miata, but had my rear bumper removed on the first lap (got it back after the race) in Turn 5 by Brian Haupt, spinning me sideways and then hit me broadside in my passenger door and breaking my rear suspension.

I'm not one to protest, but my crew was insisting since several had seen the incident from our paddock. I was more disappointed that when I discussed this with the stewards, the message I took was that you could protest but nothing would ever happen (probably due to last race group). They agreed to talk with Bryan, so I left it at that.

I was amazed when he stopped by my trailer while I was loading my damage car and said it was "unfortunate, that he thought I saw him, but he had gotten a really great start". My crew had to walk off is disgust.

The only other racer I got to talk to afterwards was Charlie Clark and he politically stated that Bryan was taking a high risk, low reward maneuver and like me, he's had many similar encounters. If anybody saw anything different, please let me know because I feel like this was a easily avoidable incident.

Don, You SHOULD have protested Bryan. Although he's a nice guy, and a long term racer, Bryan has had metal to metal with MANY, MANY cars. I typically WARN drivers to stay away from him. By not protesting him, and by every other person not protesting him for low percentage moves in the past, we've told Bryan that those low percentage moves are OK, just part of racing.

Bottom line, protest him. If it's a one time deal, no worries. If it's his 10th metal to metal protest, someone will get the message.

Pretty much the same story at both this years and last years Mid Ohio nationals - more chops, blocks, and hits than a Kung Fu movie.
